Kirk Ferentz getting sued for being racist

Regarding today's interview.

I wonder if Kirk and the players will walk out holding hands with "Back in Black" blaring in the backgroud? Music quiets.... Kirk, you have the floor.....long pause...chew gum....pause...gum....."I would like to start with examples of why we cannot be racists. Example 1: Game day song and why THE University of Iowa Hawkeyes really chose Back in Black, instead of Someone like you, by Adel........ first, let's break down the name of the song by AC/DC.

EEOC discrimination is illegal, and you can be prosecuted, fined, etc.

The civil liability would probably be worse.

I'd also say that there's a huge gulf between saying retaining KF is the right move vs. leaving the door open that KF could change and correct the problems. It's a big jump to say "KF won't change and he needs to be fired."

From what I have seen there is largely an absence of definitive statements about firing vs. retaining KF from the players. That lack of a definitive statement plus a few saying it's possible KF could fix it is being twisted by lots of people as overwhelming support to retain KF by those that have spoken out.

I mean, McNutt saying KF didn't necessarily need to be fired, KF was part of a systematic problem but he's encouraged so far by what KF has said to him has been spun as some sort of broad glowing endorsement of KF as THE guy to lead this change.

Not calling for him to be replaced publicly = full endorsement that they all want him to be retained. DUH
 
People advance because they get results. Doyle obviously produced results for the Iowa football program. Time and again, we learn though that if there is disregard to how you get results, it can catch up with you (ex. Bobby Knight at Indiana in MBB and Art Briles at Baylor in NCAAF). If they had never gotten results we wouldn't know about them, so that is important. I love the leadership definition of Susan Colantuono where she states: "Leadership is using the greatness in you to achieve and sustain. extraordinary outcomes by engaging the greatness in others." That ties closely with Covey's 8th Habit talking about finding your voice and helping others find theirs. That seems to be the core component that was missing in this situation - not everyone's voice seemed to matter.

I get people make mistakes and we have to separate the mistake from the personal identity or we would all be fired at some point. When something is repeated as a trend, and then becomes part of the culture, that is what leads to cultural cancer that has to be addressed more invasively rather than evasively. The question will be, "How big is the tumor and is it operable?"

Violating student privacy. With Kallenberg adhd matter is a violation of ADA. There are privacy, ada, and civil rights violations. Not Even close to a debate on this front.

Let's not forget about the enormously large ADA and FERPA federal law violations with the student athlete that alleged multiple coaches, who new he had a learning disability, still frequently mocked him, even in front of other players.

A student-athlete that wanted nothing more in his life than to play Iowa football.

A student-athlete who was in an atmosphere that he felt too afraid to come forward and speak up.

A student-athlete that felt do trapped and boxed in from the mocking, he had to transfer

A student-athlete that at the first chance he felt empowered enough, spoke out.


-I know these are just allegations at the moment, but honestly, if true, those coaches probably really shouldn't be around like any kind of education environment.

Wasn't he the player where they said a back injury retired him? I remember being berated because I said it was weird. Turns out I was right because the injury was ********.

The background music will probably be the theme from "The Stepford Wives" or "Fahrenheit 451".

But they are also pointing the finger at Brian. Will Kirk agree to fire Brian in order to right the program?

This isn't going to be decided in social media. Your constant defense is well they didn't specifically say this. Hopefully the investigation will get to the truth.

As for personal opinion, judging by the way BF carries himself publicly I can't fathom any scenario where his obnoxious ass wasn't at or near the middle of this.

This seems not funny in light of what is happening both in the country and at the University of Iowa.

BF is "fiery", the Hawks like it. He already dodged using homophobic slurs to the replay officials a few years back. He got a slap on the hand and the story was buried. Most Hawk fans were upset he received that punishment, one writer even did an article about how it was a good thing. They all know who BF is and what kind of person he is, he only has his job bc of his last name. That last name also makes him untouchable to these people.

Given that the younger Ferentz has a propensity to wear his feelings and emotions on his sleeves I don’t think that what happened on Saturday night was all that shocking, and honestly, I loved it.

The guy loved it that their OC used homophobic language towards referee's who were doing their job and getting the call right. We were given a preview in to how this cult thinks, none of the current issues should be a shock.

You would think that he was within a year or two of retiring irrespective of these issues, so I would not be shocked if he walked away. But I would guess more likely that KKKirk will retire at season's end.

Doubt this will be anything more than, "I did not realize that there were issues, but I am committed to working with the players, the staff, and the University to make sure Iowa Football is inclusive and respectful of all races, etc, etc, etc. Consider me woke"

Edit* And if this press conference is simply a "I will do better" moment, I agree with Jones that having a few players there as props is pathetic.

You can’t just fire a coach because a couple players make vague, conclusory statements that he is a problem. That’s not how any of this works.
