Kirk Ferentz getting sued for being racist

Not sure why you're quoting me on this
Because yours was the most recent post in the conversation. Its not that I am trying to say you are wrong or anything. Just seems like a pointless topic for debate. He says he is mixed race but is white presenting which means he looks and acts like a white guy. This would give him preferential treatment in the Hawkeye football program. Done. End of discussion.

I'm not sure what the tweets prove.
I think the tweets can be seen however you want to see them. For me, after seeing and hearing the perspectives from dozens of other former Hawkeyes, as well as reading DJK's statement last night, it seems as if DJK badly still wanted to be welcomed as part of the team and Ferentz did not allow that to happen. You can't dismiss any of what DJK said because he showed support for Doyle and Ferentz. I can guarantee you you could go back and find positive tweets towards the program and KF by all of these individuals coming out.

My daughter had a good friend who was similar. I coached her in youth basketball and she would confide in me and my daughter some. Sometimes that position is the most difficult, she said she didn't feel like she fit into either grouping. The worst part was that there was "groupings", instead of just kids or adults.

Wasn’t it stated in the story that Kirk uninvited him from the 10 year reunion? Kirk is a ***** who holds grudges and can’t move on it would seem.

This poll is pretty telling. If Iowa keeps Kirk, fan support might take a pretty good hit. He already wasn’t hugely popular over there.

Yeah DJK apparently was welcomed back by former teammates (per a former teammates tweet), however was not allowed to come back.

I can’t believe after 10 years Kirk couldn’t be an adult with a player he had issues with. Really ridiculous especially with how much that player gave to them.

This also shows the level of dictatorship that KKKirk had. If the teammates knew, they should have said, we aren't taking the field or taking recognition unless DJK can be there. If the other players knew that happened before or while it happened.

With all of these accounts, and what was brought to light by DJK, I think it would've been EXTREMELY difficult to show any sort of support that went against any of the coach's wishes. KF was threatening his player's futures. I know you're probably not blaming those guys for not speaking up, but I just can't see how that was a viable option at the time. That's why the discussion right now is so important.

Sounds like George Kittle's dad Bruce released a timely article two days ago, not saying it's about anybody in particular....sorry if already posted.

-here's some excerpts

And by the way - YOU SHOULD HAVE KNOWN. YOU SHOULD HAVE KNOWN - IT WAS AND IS YOUR JOB TO KNOW. Racism and discrimination are not new topics. These are not new to anyone who has been paying attention over the past 40 years. These are not realities that anyone is even debating at this point in history. It is real and has been real for a long time and we all know that. MAYBE things were just going too well sitting at the top. MAYBE no one was saying anything, no one was complaining, no donor making a fuss or MAYBE profits and outcomes were fine so why look any closer to the behavior of some of your own people. MAYBE. And so it was easy to act like you didn’t understand, that you did not know, or maybe if you were seeing these things, MAYBE you didn’t think they were wrong and truly believed that they were not racist or discriminatory. MAYBE.

But with your great power (and big bucks) comes GREAT RESPONSITBILITY AND GREAT ACCOUNTABILITY and if you failed in that responsibility consistently over time, then I ask you, what does it mean now to be accountable for that failure? What are you going to do now other than say you are sorry, appoint a committee to review it, and promise to listen better? Yes, I thank you for being willing to listen now, when the media and entire world is watching, when statements about what was going on within YOUR organization are coming from everywhere, when people that were victimized by the culture of your organization are coming forward to speak their truth. But honestly it feels more than just a bit hallow and late. And help me here please. Help me understand that you really had no indications of any of this before? You never heard any stories or complaints from anyone? You never saw it or thought those things were racist? Really?

Penn State rebounded pretty quickly from their tragedy. Will Iowa?

With PSU to some extent, once you cleared house it was pretty much everyone on board. People supported JoPa but not the crimes of course. So when he was gone, and then died, there simply wasn't much to fight over.

With Iowa, it feels like the arguments could continue forever. Kneeling or not. Demanding vs demeaning, aka the Bobby Knight argument. The base tribal political aspects - "well if that guy supports it then I am against it".

And heaven forbid the new guy doesn't win 8 games per season. It will be the "Kirk shoulda never been fired" parade, aka the Larry Eustacy argument.

Iowa really needs to get their responses calibrated perfectly on this, and there will be no pleasing everyone. They get it wrong, and it will set their program back for years.
