Let me also say for all of the people who want or expect certain members of the Iowa staff fired, the players brought this up. They are the ones filing the complaints. They are the ones who really have the inside story on everything. And from the sounds of it, Daniels is leading the group of former players with nothing to lose who will evaluate, discuss, and make recommendations.
Like it or not IMO the program belongs to the players and former players. If they come out and decide to not recommend canning anybody, regardless of our personal feelings I think we should support whatever decision they come to.
This is where I differ a little bit. Players and former players have a voice for sure, but so do fans and frankly so do students, faculty, etc. - whether they care about football or not - because for better or worse, that program is the most visible representation of their university.
It's not unlike when a beloved coach starts losing. Nobody ever "wants" the coach to be fired, least of all the players - because they love him more than anyone and are familiar with him. But someone has to step in and say this isn't sustainable or this isn't moving in the right direction anymore.
Imagine if it were an academic department chair accused of running the department like this. Or a professor who managed his classes that way. Or the campus police force. Can you imagine anyone else in any other situation surviving these kinds of allegations? Of course not.
And if people think these are the biased comments of a rival fan, I would argue that it probably benefits ISU more to have a severely crippled Ferentz remain than to start fresh.
