Iowa Football Recruiting

Lol! The whole article is comparing Purdy to Lawrence & Fields. Purdy has less talent around him than those two.... no kidding?

Welcome to the ignore button. See you on your next username.

There it is when confronted with reality from outside the isu bubble clone gets pissy and can’t handle it.

I will admit that when I watch Purdy play, I don't know that he's going to end up doing much at all at the next level in the NFL. He could prove me wrong.

With that being said, that doesn't mean he can't be an amazing college QB and do amazing things at the college level. Look how many QB's have been awesome college QB's, even winning Heisman's and National Championships, yet did next to nothing in the NFL..... there's been a LOT. This is the category I could see Purdy being in. TeBow was his idol growing up.... and he was one of the best college QB's ever, yet did next to nothing in the NFL.

Sure if people didn't know anything about our depth from last year. Iowa fans have shown they don't have the eye for receivers.

That’s great but it wasn’t an Iowa fan saying isu has “limited weaponry” it was a draft expert who looked at what isu has for 2020 and gave commentary accordingly.

I think Purdy is a great QB and one almost any school would be happy to have. When I say this I mean I don’t think Ohio State or Clemson would trade for Purdy. If I were an isu fan I would be worried about his health. No matter how good a QB is if he doesn’t have great protection it is a matter of time until they get dinged up. Just my opinion but I view isu’s record last year as a direct result of Purdy not being 100% for the season.

You really have to question if someone has done their homework if they think ISU has "limited weaponry".... that's for sure.

ISU is completely LOADED at RB and TE. At WR they have experienced proven weapons in Milton, Shaw, Scates, and Akers. And if people want to sleep on the 3 incoming guys.... TJ Tampa, Daniel Jackson, and Xavier Hutchinson.... go ahead at your own peril. I could see all 3 of them playing this season.... they are studs.

I can't argue with you here at all.

Purdy will only be great if he has a decent OL. First off, the OL needs to be able to run block to establish a running threat, otherwise we'll be forced to pass all the time and teams will just tee off on Purdy.... and then also will need to be able to pass protect in passing situations as well.... because without time to throw, any QB is basically useless.

As the case with almost every season for ISU... it will be the play of the OL/DL that determines ISU's success. I'm not concerned at all about anything else honestly. The OL will be a HUGE question mark. We have two proven guys in Newell and Downing... and that's it. Foster hasn't proven to be good enough IMO. Everyone else will basically be a question mark... and that might be a big problem.

Let me ask you this how will isu play this fall will they go heavy with the TE’s or will they continue to go with WR’s, because you can’t do both? Each play that has a TE on the field one WR comes off. If you want to go with 2 TE’s then again another WR comes off the field. Having large numbers of WR when only 2-3 are in the game at a time doesn’t do a lot of good.

I still think that long term the best way for isu to have success in the Big 12 is to go contrary to what the rest of the league does with the spread. Go more 2TE and 2Back sets and line up and play power football. Then switch it up and go 11 personnel with 1TE and 1Back with 3WR.

I don't think you have to decide to go either way IMO.

CMC will play multiple sets. You will see everything from 2 TE sets with only 2 WRs at times.... all the way up to 5 WR empty backfield sets.

And just because ISU is in a 2 TE run heavy set, that doesn't mean they won't pass out of it. All of the TE's can catch.

I don't think you have to decide if you're going to play mostly TE's or mostly WR's??

Most of your posts this morning have been reasonable, but this one is not IMO. Iowa State is not loaded at TE or RB. Compared to what they have had in past years? Sure. But Chase Allen and Dylan Soehner aren’t special talents. They have less than 400 combined receiving yards in 6 years in the program. They are average players at best. Similarly, Breece Hall appears to be really good, but no other returning RB has demonstrated that they are anything more than an average RB (and even that might be generous).

Then, you claim that guys like Akers, Shaw, and Scates are “proven weapons.” Scates has 2 career catches. Akers has never caught more than 10 passes in a season. Neither of those guys are “proven weapons.” Any Iowa State fan would laugh in my face if I claimed Oliver Martin was a “proven weapon,” but that is the equivalent of what you are claiming here.

Allen could end up being a pro. Soehner has more accolades than Goodson lol. You obviously know what they have been saying about Dean who Ferentz desperately wanted so yeah our TE room is stacked

RB room I agree with for now (though Jirehl Brock is going to be really good).

WR room I also agree. It is full of mostly unproven, but talented players.

Totally disagree on the TE room. Allen and Soehner most definitely are better than “average” players.

He knows a lot about RBs

I mean, I would take Kelly-Martin over any of Iowa State’s other backs.

Absolutely zero, but I don’t need to; Kelly-Martin is going to be that good.

My personal favorite

That’s how it appears- it seemed like they were reluctant to make Wadley a feature back even though he was clearly the most talented back on the team. I think they’d rather have a physical, Leshun Daniels/Toren Young/Jirehl Brock type back as the predominant ballcarrier, and mix in an Akrum Wadley/ Ivory Kelly-Martin/Tyler Goodson type back for 10-15 touches per game.

buddy we beat you guys out on 2 four star running backs in 2019. Either one of those running backs would have been the best running back on Iowa. Also Scates will probably be the best receiver on the team in 2 years.
