I don't know, maybe some of those other states have more strict measures than they need. Or, maybe Iowa SHOULD have a more strict shut down. We don't know. Different states that have taken fairly similar measures to each other are seeing different results. That tells me there are more factors at play than just the amount of businesses that have been shut down. That is certainly one factor though.Okay, which brings me back to what I just said... what exactly are they waiting for that at least 76% of the rest of the country (per @Clonefan32) didn't see a reason to hold off on?
We probably all agree that something that works in Alaska wont work the same way in California, or New Jersey. So I don't buy the reasoning of "76% of states are doing it, so we have to do it too." Maybe we should, but not by that logic. If those states had proven results to look at at and we could say "hey, this worked", then it's logical to follow their example. No one has results yet though. The data we do have varies tremendously state by state. The number of new cases in Iowa does not appear to be increasing that quickly based on the last couple days. The past 3 days even show a flattening of the curve. I'm not buying into it yet, since it could just as easily jump up tomorrow and continue to increase. No one knows yet.
I'd be fine if the Governor and whoever is helping her make decisions decided we did need a more strict "stay at home" policy, or whatever that really means. I don't know if that is the best decision or not though. I definitely think mayors need to be given the power to make that call for their individual town/city. That makes more sense to me than a statewide shut down anyway.
