The Fran fade

Exactly lol. You have two choices when teams get physical, you can complain about it or you can be physical yourself. If you're physical too and the refs start calling fouls on you, then there is something to complain about. CJ had a wide open three in a critical moment and bricked it, and I don't think that had anything to do with the physicality of how the game was played.

Nearly every Big 10 team in that bracket has better seeding than I expected.
Yeah I'd agree with that. I think a huge issue here is that there are a lot of teams who are essentially the same and have beaten and lost to one another. But, other teams obviously have to be seeded too, so you can't put the top half of the big 10 at 4-5-6 seeds because other teams are going to fill those spots as well.

I can't recall any blown calls by the refs, like awarding the ball to the wrong team on an out of bounds or traveling on a guy who didn't travel. So from that standpoint they did quite well. As for fouls, they were letting the players play on both sides. That didn't favor either team. Would you rather they called 15 more fouls on both teams and you end up watching a free throw contest? Nobody wants that. Garza would have fouled out with 15 minutes left. B1G doesn't want that.

I don't have a problem with how it was officiated. Iowa gave up to many offensive rebounds in the 2nd half and that is why they lost. There was absolutely a lot of hand checking, etc. going on the perimeter and that favors Illinois because they plan strictly man to man whereas Iowa plays mostly zone. Illinois was called for 3 fouls on one possession for holding or hand checking early in the 2nd half because I think the officials were trying to keep it under control. I don' think they were called again in the last 16 mins. It's kind of like West Virginia; there are a lot of times where it feels like the officials could call a foul every time down the floor but for whatever reason they choose not to call fouls. I think the style of play wears on them a bit so that as the game goes along, they allow more and more physicality. Not sure why that happens. A foul is a foul whether there are 10 in a game or 30.
