I'm not going to take anything away from what Fran has done this year with Iowa. I think he's done a great job. Him and Prohm are however in different situations and should be judged differently.
I think everyone, including Prohm, thought that Nixon was going to be better than what he currently is. He's been flat out awful and almost unplayable. Sure he was playing down a level but he had a full year to get better at certain areas of his game and he didn't. He was suppose to be a good defender and I think because his offensive game is terrible, he now doesn't play defense. So, that's now requiring Prohm to dip into the freshman who frankly aren't ready to contribute a ton.
Another problem that we thought we'd have would be at that 4 position. Conditt, Jacobson, and Solomon are all 5's but Jacobson has played the 4 most of the year and he has not been good there at all. So now we're bringing in Lewis and Griffin, who have shown glimpses of ability in the past but not quite enough to substantiate quality playing time. However, because that 4 position is not producing at all on offense and struggling to defend on defense, we are starting to play Griffin and Lewis more because they're starting to provide a little bit more of a spark.
As far as Conditt goes, he's been pretty darn good at being a rim protector, but teams are now starting to try and stretch him out and get him out of the lane and he's struggled with that. Offensively, he hasn't been able to find much of a groove either and overall gets himself into foul trouble. Over the last few games Solomon has been really good and is making it very very hard for Prohm to take him out of the game and because of that, Conditt's minutes have gone down a little bit.
A coach is always going to be judged on W/L's or should be anyway. I think Prohm has enough pieces at ISU that it should be a NCAA tournament team. I'm not sure why there are so many on here that seem to excuse Prohm this year.
