MLB Suspends Astro Mgr & GM For Cheating.

I thought the punishment was a appropriate. A large portion of the organization was involved in this scheme. I also think that other teams were doing something similar (Red Sox, for example). This also helps try to deter other teams from doing the same. Teams value draft picks more highly than ever.

Maybe I’m just to cynical but I feel like this is overblown. I will admit I haven’t paid attention but I feel like every team is cheating in some form or fashion.

It's always difficult for me to understand how people can be so shortsighted in systemic cheating like this. Players/coaches are always going to change teams, even if they won a championship or two while they were there. Then they will shed light on the cheating, or try to cheat more like Cora. The temptation is just too great i guess.

Will be interesting to see what happens to Cora, since he was the one who actually set up the cameras to do it. Houston can hire Cora and Boston can hire Hinch. Ta-da! All better.

stealing signs is part of baseball. When they started using technology to do it, that is when you get real problems.

Still, this suspension and draft pick elimination was over the top. I'm not sure of the extent "technology" was used. As a Houston resident and fan, I casually heard they compared Hand Signals to pitch selection using live feed cameras. C'mon man.

My soft rebuttal is to reference Football using live-feed photos of Defensive Audibles and shifts. How many NFL QBs do we see reviewing live-feed photos waiting for the O to get back on field. They know the audible from the technology.

Stealing Hand-Signals is a part of MLB and it's time they find ways to counter the cameras.
My favorite past-time during a game is guessing Catcher signals and predicting Curve / FB/ or Slider. It gets real fun when the Catcher flutters his 4 fingers then point to location :)

You act like they haven't been warned to not do it before.....that is why the suspension was so brutal.

The Red Sox are next, and MLB will deal with Cora then, I would bet, Boston will let him go before that happens.
Boston takes the PR hit before the charges are actually laid out, gives them time to find another manager for spring training starts.

Cora, and the two from Houston will never work in MLB again.

I think the two in Houston will work in MLB again. Everybody gets second and third chances.

So basically it boils down to the $5M fine and losing your first two draft picks for 2 years after you fire the individuals who were suspended. That doesn't seem too severe to me. I think they should've lost all their draft picks for two years.

It doesn't sound like they are fine with it...

Why not give them lifetime bans then? They cheated at the very highest level and won the World Series. The WS stays with Houston and Luhnow and Hinch sit out a year. Both will be back in MLB in some capacity.
