All Iowa Football Team---Post Bowl Edition

It's not landing because it's hitting you hard. I wouldn't have put much stock into it but after hearing that your coach apparently bragged about hanging with Iowa specifically in the post game of the ND game... yikes. He's going to be pulling out the Iowa specific countdown clock out of storage in no time.

It honestly bodes very well for ISU next non-con.
I honestly think you're reading into it wrong. I think Matt Campbell is trying to tell people how good he thinks Iowa is. He respects Kirk a lot.

I mean I'm not going to sit here and lie and say Purdy played well in every game this year because he definitely didn't. He had a few times this year where he did not play well, but there were also some games where the offense just wasn't clicking and it was not because of Brock. Defenses started figuring out our offense and taking away a lot of throwing lanes and it's not Brock's fault that he wasn't "making plays".

They're also trying to discredit some of his games because the Iowa State football team, not just Brock Purdy, lost the game. Take the OU game for example. Saying Brock didn't do enough to win the game when he threw for 282 yards, 5 passing TD's, ran for 55 yards and scored a rushing TD. The TEAM was down 3 TD's in the 4th quarter and Brock put the team on his back and played outstanding, throwing 3 of his TD's in the 4th quarter on the road against the #9 team in the nation. And before any of these trolls say "well OU's defense isn't really good".. Nate Stanley only had two games this year where he put up 3 TD's in an entire game. Those games were against Miami-Ohio and Rutgers.

OU Defensive Ranking: 38th
Miami - Ohio Defensive Ranking: 59th
Rutgers Defensive Ranking: 96th

The reality is that Stanley does not have to have a great game, or even a good game to beat teams. Even when he plays absolutely terrible, his team helps him out and picks up his slack.

But then you look at the All Iowa team and most ISU fans say they have superior talent at most positions and have better coaches. Something doesn’t add up.

From what I've seen, a lot of us ISU fans have agreed that these teams would be about 50/50 in terms of make up. I also think special teams has been make or break for both teams this year. It killed Iowa State in multiple games this year and helped Iowa tremendously.

Even at 50/50 that doesn’t suggest that Purdy has to win games all by himself and Stanley doesn’t.

Yeah I don't think I ever said Purdy had to win games by himself, but Purdy rarely gets to play poorly and then only make 2-3 nice plays in a game in order to win like sometimes Stanley gets to. Purdy could not go 11-24 with 99 yards and an interception and be in a game where all his team needs is for him to drive to the opponents 35 yard line to kick a game winner.

They shouldnt be 50/50 though. Iowa is going to finish the season a top 15 team, ISU wont be close to that. Its not accurate to say the teams were equal this season.

If you think that, then that is a pretty big indictment of the ISU coaching staff or a pretty big endorsement of the Iowa coaching staff. Or you are just a homer.

Does Purdy have guys to throw to that can make this acrobatic and difficult catch though @iahawks ?

I would guess so. What makes that catch for me is the situation. Stanley was under pressure, all the momentum was on USC’s side, it was 3rd and 11 and a true freshman had to go up and catch a rocket with a guy draped all over him. Iowa went on to score a td after that. Huge swing in the game.

USC had the momentum at that point?

If you don't think the 2 teams are fairly even I don't know what to tell you.

That's not how it works because neither team is playing the exact same schedule on the exact same day. There are also players on each team that outweigh players on another team. Epenesa is by far the best defensive lineman in the state and it's not close. Wirfs and Jackson are by far the best offensive lineman in the state and it's not even close. They carry way more weight on their teams than Uwazerike or JGJ did for Iowa State. It's a testament to Iowa for having those type of players.

If Brandon Smith and ISM were on Iowa State they would be highlighted tremendously more and would probably both be on that list. That's a testament to Brock Purdy and the offense.

Iowa's entire special teams would make this list besides maybe our long snapper.
