All Iowa Football Team---Post Bowl Edition

We played the 5th hardest schedule in the country. The things they try to do to discredit a talent like Purdy is sad
I mean I'm not going to sit here and lie and say Purdy played well in every game this year because he definitely didn't. He had a few times this year where he did not play well, but there were also some games where the offense just wasn't clicking and it was not because of Brock. Defenses started figuring out our offense and taking away a lot of throwing lanes and it's not Brock's fault that he wasn't "making plays".

They're also trying to discredit some of his games because the Iowa State football team, not just Brock Purdy, lost the game. Take the OU game for example. Saying Brock didn't do enough to win the game when he threw for 282 yards, 5 passing TD's, ran for 55 yards and scored a rushing TD. The TEAM was down 3 TD's in the 4th quarter and Brock put the team on his back and played outstanding, throwing 3 of his TD's in the 4th quarter on the road against the #9 team in the nation. And before any of these trolls say "well OU's defense isn't really good".. Nate Stanley only had two games this year where he put up 3 TD's in an entire game. Those games were against Miami-Ohio and Rutgers.

OU Defensive Ranking: 38th
Miami - Ohio Defensive Ranking: 59th
Rutgers Defensive Ranking: 96th

The reality is that Stanley does not have to have a great game, or even a good game to beat teams. Even when he plays absolutely terrible, his team helps him out and picks up his slack.

That’s some pretty crappy offense. Snooze fest to watch. Our D would have probably been top 5 in the nation if we had those teams.

Scoring offense for each of those teams and the amount Iowa gave up to each team in ():

Penn State 35.8 PPG (17)
Wisconsin 34.6 PPG (24)
Minnesota 34.3 PPG (19)
Michigan 33.0 PPG (10)
Nebraska 28.0 PPG (24)
Illinois 27.3 PPG (10)
Purdue 25.8 PPG (20)
Northwestern 16.3 PPG (0)
Rutgers 13.3 PPG (0)

Nonconference P5 teams:

USC 32.5 PPG (24)
ISU 32.2 PPG (17)

Iowa played 11 P5 teams this season. They held every single one of them under their average scoring output for the season.

They held 9 of the 11 at least 10 points below their average scoring output for the season.

They held 6 of the 11 at least 15 points below their average scoring output for the season.

And some could make the case that a lot of the Big 10's defenses were good because the offenses they were playing were at the JV level. It's however you want to spin the argument. Iowa's average offense of opponents in the Big 10 was ranked 79th.

Rutgers - 129 (out of 130)
Northwestern - 124
Illinois - 119
Purdue - 75
Michigan - 69
Penn State - 58
Nebraska - 56
Minnesota - 50
Wisconsin - 35

Iowa played two Big 10 teams that were in the top 50 for offense.
Yeah, the defenses in the B1G are legit. Tends to drive down offensive numbers.

Michigan didn’t seem to have a problem moving the ball and scoring on the ND team that just stifled the cyclones.

So you are bragging that you held some bad offenses under their average? If you were a top half of the conference, wouldn’t that seem logical because the bottom half would score above their average against the other crappy teams on the bottom, and below their average against the better teams? It’s not rocket science but seems like you think you caught lightening in a bottle with that tidbit.

Lol I still laugh thinking you guys gave up 24 points vs Nebraska

Right because a bowl game, where each team has a month to prepare, is the same as ND having to go on the road to Michigan to play in a rivalry game. Lol

And I could say the same thing about the Big 12 in which the great offenses tend to drive down the defensive numbers.

I'm still laughing you gave up 33 to the Domers. As bad as USC's defense was they only gave up 30 (and still managed 27).

Woof. Again, bad call by Campbell letting your boys stay up to watch the Holiday Bowl. September 2020 looking great for you now though.

If Wirfs played a top 5 schedule in the country he probably spends half the season on his back. I mean I could look good blocking Big Ten West players

C-. The watching the Holiday Bowl thing isn't landing otherwise you were doing fine

We held every offense we played under their average, in most cases double digits under their average.

That includes a B12 and P12 offense. The B12 offense was held over 15 points under their average.

No one thought this joke was funny the first time you said it.. It doesn't get funnier saying it twice lol.

TCU’s defense had much more success against Purdue than the incredible Iowa defense. ISU pummeled them. It’s almost like a 1 game sample size is the crutch of the simple mind.

Idc if someone wants to call Iowa the superbowl or not. Just win the game lol. Then win the games after that one.

It's not landing because it's hitting you hard. I wouldn't have put much stock into it but after hearing that your coach apparently bragged about hanging with Iowa specifically in the post game of the ND game... yikes. He's going to be pulling out the Iowa specific countdown clock out of storage in no time.

It honestly bodes very well for ISU next non-con.

No. I like you and I'm telling you it's not funny
