Iowa Football Recruiting

Yup. On paper USC should have a great team, but in reality they're just good. The constant coaching rumors that have hovered around the program for the last few years have definitely hurt this program.

Which is just proof of how dumb people who lose it over recruiting rankings is. Helton has 34 wins in the 4 full seasons he has been head coach. That is 8.5 a year. I get that USC brings in a top 10ish recruiting class every year, but winning at that level shouldn’t have you watching your back every single offseason.

Yeah I definitely agree. In Helton's first year, he took them to the Rose Bowl and went 10-3. In his second year, he took them to the Sugar Bowl and went 11-3. Last year they were not good and this year they were plagued with injuries, however won 8 games and were competitive in every loss except against Oregon.

The USC faithful should be careful what they wish for....Helton is a good coach. The uncertainty really hurt recruiting this year. Another coaching change....unless it's a home run like Meyer could really set that program back.

I understand why big schools desperately would want Urban Meyer, but the guy has an expiration date at every school he goes to. He can't keep his nose clean and once rumors start flying around he has a "health issue" and flees the scene.

If Iowa keeps the game close, it'll be a battle to the end. If USC takes control of the game, I don't think Iowa will have the fire power to stay in the game.

I agree. Iowa has to do their thing and hopefully make the game uglier than USC wants. I'm not feeling the best about it since Iowa has done horrible on the west coast and USC is loaded at every position and are healthy.

True....but the guy recruits. I think USC is at a cross roads.....they have the name but have some turmoil in the AD, facilities aren't where they should be and just laid a turd on the recruiting trail. Real opportunity for UCLA but not sure if they're up to it. Apparently UCLA has the better facilities so could overcome the USC brand name and get the majority of studs out of LA....we'll see.

This is true, but I think deep down almost all schools would take a Meyer tenure of showing up, recruiting like a madman, winning a title, then “retiring” under questionable circumstances.

Yeah USC being healthy is pretty dangerous because they've basically been unhealthy the entire year. When their starting QB went down at the beginning of the year, they basically had to figure things out on the go the rest of the year. They also had numerous skill players and guys on their defense that sat out games this year.

I have a feeling the first few drives of this game will be a determinant of how the rest of the game is going to go.

I wouldn't be surprised if USC plays inspired football for Helton but then again I'm not sure if his players like him. I think USC wins though

Yep, Iowa needs to come out a lot better than they have in the past on the west coast. Need to be in the game after the first quarter and keep it close.

USC needs a pro coach like Eric Bienemy, Chuck Pagano.

I'm not a fan of a blue blood school, but I got to imagine it would be pretty hard to watch your team go 8-5 or 9-4 every year when they start 7 AJ Epenesa's basically and then 12 other 4* along side those 7 5* guys. I'm never going to say that about any other coach anywhere, but I do think if you are a blue blood that recruits at a top 5/10 level nearly every year 8 or 9 wins isn't good enough.
