I watched the whole thing expecting it to go to 2019

Boy, I'm trying to think of a creative response to this, but all I can come up with is: go **** yourself.
Wouldn't even be possible playing in the Big 12 this year. From Saturday...
Wouldn't even be possible playing in the undefeated Big 12 this year.
I think there might be some recency bias to this. Last year we obviously were conservative, but the year before that we put up 38 points in regulation against Iowa.We will rarely win this game playing the way they play. I genuinely think we'd do better slinging it around the yard every year this game than continuing to attempt the power football, clock control thing.
For that reason alone I can't pick ISU to win with any confidence, regardless of all other factors.
And we did that by... Slinging it around the yard 45 times to the tune of 350 yards (7.5/att) and 4 TD's. The offense didn't fail us that game, our defense did, giving up 330 yards and 5 TDs over the air of their own.I think there might be some recency bias to this. The offense is unleashed and the defensive does what it does. Excitement back post game, as ISU wins 42-27

We also had some big, risky plays in there. 30 yard TD pass. 74 yard TD pass. Multiple other passes >20 yards. How much of that did we see on Saturday?
Can you imagine the salt about that? It'd be hilarious, even if petty. First win in what, 4 games now, likely against a ranked Iowa when we aren't ranked? CFB media would even back us up on it.Queue up the field rush!
No, and that really bothers me. Apparently our line in 2017 was much better (at least in pass pro) than our current one is. Park is not more mobile than Purdy would be, and we know Purdy can hit the throws already -- it's coming down to the guys infront of him, or miraculous footwork, to make these kinds of playsDo you think ISU' Oline can block long enough to have a receiver run a 20 yard route?
We had one of the best deep ball QB's in the nation last year and the same O-line as well. I think we'll be fine in that category.Do you think ISU' Oline can block long enough to have a receiver run a 20 yard route?
Those TD's against Iowa came on plays where they played man-to-man coverage on our WR's and we torched them. UNI sat back and played zone the entire time and sagged off on every single play. We would've been throwing the ball into double teams almost every time unless there was some sort of miscommunication. I think we should've tested the defense deep a few times, but I understand the concept behind getting the 6 yard pass play every time. And we did that by... Iowa hasn't turned it over against ISU since 2015. That's a crazy stat. I think it happens more than once.
I'll be the crazy person/outlier.
Iowa State 34
Iowa 13
That is nuts. Iowa is generally good at protecting the football, but big element of luck involved in going 3 straight years without a turnover.
It has been hard to objectively think about the UNI game - man, I was wiped out after that. But I think there were only 3 take aways from my perspective. Everything else is hard to measure because of the play calling.
1) We missed Butler. Our WR played well, I guess good routes and caught the ball - but not as much as we would have hoped after catching the ball. probably cost us 3-7 points.
2) Our secondary was a notch below expectations. I can think of a 3-5 catches UNI made for 10+ yards that should have been <10 yards. I don't think they led to any scores but I think it kept us from getting the ball in better field position and likely cost us 3-7 points.
3) We made a number of small mistakes, penalties that weren't of great concern. Cost us 3-7 points.
I expect we will clean up #3. I am not so sure about 1 and 2. I think Iowa will outperform us in the passing game as a result.
Iowa 24 - ISU 20 and I don't like that a bit.
I assume this is a euphemism.
