My kingdom to the enterprising producer that gets that 'stunned hawk' image on the big board everytime we score in the game.

Iowa didn't give us any video film to evaluate from. Neither did Iowa State....no film to really make a judgement.
Do not politicize the CyHawk.
Iowa really doesn't stray away from who they are, meaning they're not going to do anything offensively in particular that's going to be crazy. They rarely ever change who they are because they've been successful in their ways.

I definitely wouldn't read much into the Week 1 gameplan as it pertains to how ISU might call the Iowa game. I'm sure they were trying to play things pretty close to the chest, and they've got a bye week to work up some surprises.

Week 1 results just aren't a barometer for anyone's season.

Out of curiosity I looked, and two years ago ISU won 42-24 but statistically it was closer and UNI turned the ball over.

That year Iowa squeaked by them and went on to win the Orange Bowl, UNI actually had more yards etc. and it took two blocked field goals (getting one is miraculous) to win.

My concerns aren't the playcalling as much as the personnel in the line and on the outside for ISU to stretch the field throughout the season.

If you're talking about WR stretching the field, I understand the concern but would take the first game with a grain of salt. UNI was playing the corners back about 8 yards every play, with 3 safeties over the top. We knew we could take the 6-7 yard pass play every time and it worked. I know we don't have Hakeem, but the guys we do have are quite fast and athletic and I'm sure when we get a more opportune chance, we will let them loose.

Iowa State kickers have had some big moments against Iowa. They hit a game winner a few years ago, and didn’t Iowa State win a game by kicking like six field goals- I think it would have been in 2007?
Don't forget Alex Giffords hitting four field goals in a 19-7 win over Iowa in 1982. After the game Hayden said he would be happy to attend Gifford's graduation. Giffords went on to lead the Big 8 in field goals made and field goal percentage for the year.

Iowa wins this game in perpetuity until ISU becomes better at playing smash mouth football than Iowa is. I predict ISU tries to establish the run early and plays conservative with little to no success. Repeated runs up the middle of 0 to 2 yds, with short passes to the middle of hte field on 3rd down. Playbook doesn't open up until the second half and by then, it's too late. 31-10 Iowa.

I can see that happening, but it will be "head against the wall" level frustrating if it does.

At the end of the day, our D should keep Iowa under 27 pts (don't think it'll be quite as low as some believe). The question is can our O score more than 27 pts without turning the ball over?

I said it before the season started and will likely keep saying it even though people keep criticizing me for it.... Our fate rests with finding a consistent back that can be multi-dimensional and with being aggressive with play calling.

People forget that DM was great because he wasn't just good in a few types of situations, he was multi-dimensional and a true featured back. We have backs that are great at one thing each and need to find one to step up and be "the guy" consistently.

Iowa's D is going to cause us problems more than I think our D is going to cause them problems. If we're conservative, we lose - there just isn't a big enough margin for error to make up ground late.

Purdy will have to be allowed to run and be creative to open things up, otherwise we lose fairly easily.

If we avoid turnovers and costly penalties, and try to set the tone rather than take what they give us, I like our chances a whole lot more.

If we play conservative... Iowa 27, ISU 10 (this is my fear)
If we play aggressive... Iowa 21, ISU 27

It has been hard to objectively think about the UNI game - man, I was wiped out after that. But I think there were only 3 take aways from my perspective. Everything else is hard to measure because of the play calling.

1) We missed Butler. Our WR played well, I guess good routes and caught the ball - but not as much as we would have hoped after catching the ball. probably cost us 3-7 points.
2) Our secondary was a notch below expectations. I can think of a 3-5 catches UNI made for 10+ yards that should have been <10 yards. I don't think they led to any scores but I think it kept us from getting the ball in better field position and likely cost us 3-7 points.
3) We made a number of small mistakes, penalties that weren't of great concern. Cost us 3-7 points.

I expect we will clean up #3. I am not so sure about 1 and 2. I think Iowa will outperform us in the passing game as a result.

Iowa 24 - ISU 20 and I don't like that a bit.

This is really stupid. You should feel bad.

I'm going to be cynical and say Iowa 35-16.

The play calling is so by the book my 5 year old knew they were going to run. Unless last weekend was to throw people off the trail I'm not convinced we can win. At all. I hope I'm wrong and you all can quote this post and mock me for it after-the-fact when we win.

I bet your stupid kid didn't know they were going to pass on 4th and 1. OR the 3rd and 2 before that

Iowa by 4. We'll need a touchdown at the end but will come up short. They'll kneel out the final minute or so.
