Iowa Football Recruiting

I find the story. I read your post as dRiving accident.

Brutal. The simple fact that the kid even has a chance to play football is astounding. I genuinely don't know any of the story. Is Kirk going to honor the commit? If he does that is pretty remarkable.

Really brutal. His rehab is going well. Yes he still has a schollie. If I were his parent I'd have a really hard time with my kid playing football after an accident like that.

Of course he is.
Article I just read say his physicians recommend he does not play football. Not a single judgement from me regarding the kid and his parents choice. Irrespective it is great that he seemingly seems on a road to recovery and health.

That article was probably from a few months ago. I know initially they said no way but are open now to re-evalutating him at the 1 year point.

I know that it would be a tough hurdle for my boys to convince my wife and I that he could play again.

It was late september last year. So if I am tracking this correctly here is the time line:
-commits summer before his senior year
-several weeks later suffers severe c-spine trauma
-gets treatment and care
-rehabs and recovers while going to school his senior year
-graduates and is on campus in Iowa City

Is that the right order of events? If so, unbelievable. Tough and lucky kid.

Of course? He's pulled scholarship offers before
I think visiting a hospital is not considered visiting another school while committed to Iowa. Moral of story breaking neck is one way not to have a scholarship pulled at Iowa.

No. He committed and suffered the injury right as his junior year was beginning.

He rehabbed all year during his junior year of HS and is just getting ready to start his senior year of HS with the hopes of playing some this season. He will enroll at Iowa on scholarship in June of 2020. I dont think he plans on enrolling early.

I can only assume it was his neck. I would hope they honor it. I am leary having a son with two documented head injuries playing high school ball. Both were none football related injuries. Hard to explain the difference between a head injury and a concussion, but neither was considered a concussion. We told him though he gets another one, during the season, he's done!

According to the concussion specialists, the State of Iowa does not have a rule on # of concussions a player is limited to through out their high career, before they are ineligible to participate in that sport.

They've pulled kids scholarships that didn't even visit other schools too. KF is pretty ruthless when it comes to recruiting

You should be writing this out 10k x's instead of posting here non-stop.

Is this why this thread exists?

From what I was told Iowa is further behind in concession protocols than most states. Kinda why we really don't want to have him playing any further than high school. Hoping for a safe final season.
That is why I really like going to games in Madison. The concession protocols deliver much quicker without all of the standing around.
