Next Year's (Tournament?) Team/Potential

Bolton's immediate eligibility is key here. If he can play next year, he will almost certainly be a starter and one of our top scorers. I think with him we have the pieces to not only make the tourney, but fight for a top half of the league finish. Without him, I still think we are a bubble team that should get into the tourney. The tough non-con schedule will tell us a lot either way.

I really like the makeup of the personalities on this roster along with the talent. As someone mentioned earlier, the team chemistry should be much improved.

Next years team has a wide range of outcomes. I wouldn’t bet on making the tourney myself but...

The front court should be cromulent. Conditt is exciting. Solo and Jake have both played big on tourney teams, and both can shoot it well.

Backcourt has two high IQ guys in Haliburton and Nixon, and I think Terrence Lewis is going to make the most of his lopportunity.

I think if Bolton becomes eligible then we are capable of being a tourney team. If Lewis makes a big jump (I had thought he was going to be better than Wigginton in that recruiting class and was clearly wrong), but I am still holding out hope that he turns into a good player. This would be the time for him to make the jump and contribute big. I think we will see a lot from Conditt.

Optimistic like most that this could be a tournament team and hopefully a pretty challenging nonconference schedule will create more answers than questions. Curious as to what player ( or players ) will provide that leadership role with so many new faces. You know...the guy that keeps the team together, provides positive energy, holds everyone accountable, sets the tone by example, etc. Is it Halliburton just because he will be the most playing-time returning guard now? (which is still scary to think about how much scoring, experienced guard play we lost). Is it Jacobsen because of the end of last year and being a senior? I wonder how much of a leader type is Nixon? My perception of Solomon is that he’s so quiet, but maybe I’m wrong. After all, he’s been here a while and gone thru a lot of adversity. We all hope he has a great year for his sake. Overall this roster just reminds me how tough it is this day and age to have or keep an experienced, jr/senior dominant team like we had Georges or Monte’s senior year, or that Texas Tech had this year. Hopefully we’ll be in for lots of pleasant surprises as we watch this new group grow.

Team chemistry is going to be huge. It's basically a bunch of guys that need to learn to play with each other. Still a little nervous about having a go to guy and learning defense.

Probably a #6 or #7 seed. It would be great if the team would gel and outperform expectations--especially if they start the season "under the radar" as a #6 pick in the B12.

I see a team that has good leadership and chemistry because guys like Haliburton and Jacobsen will evolve into those roles. Young could be that silent assassin (lead by example, not words).

Flushing Wigginton and THT out of the program will be a step back in talent but a huge step forward in team cohesiveness. I can see a similar record as last season but immensely more enjoyable to watch.

Tyrese already showed last year that he could be a vocal leader. Definitely a guy that keeps it very positive. Would he be the guy who gets in someone's face when he isn't giving it all? Probably not, but Jacobson will certainly do that.

I think we will be a team that plays hard and plays with energy. Scoring will be the key. Can we create mismatches and can we put the ball in the hole?

I'm hoping that we make the dance. I think we have a lot of young talent. The future is bright.

I was going to post something similar. IMO this will be MJ and TH's team this year and they have both shown excellent leadership qualities. We just didn't have that last year and that really lowered our ceiling IMO.

Excited to see Tyrese taking more shots. He could be a hybrid of Donovan Jackson and Monte Morris, with more emphasis on those wide open corner 3's.

Have we heard any expectations of Leech? Does he need another year of getting stronger/building confidence?

I'm not expecting much from Leech this next year. I would actually like to see him redshirt if it works out that way. I think a year on a nutritional plan, working with the ISU strength and training staff, and a lot of work in the gym would go a long ways. Imagine how good he could be as an upperclassmen.

I think a lot of it depends on how T-Lew performs tbh. Sounds like he's going to get every opportunity to play meaningful minutes. If he struggles through non-conference and Leech is looking good in practice, I think it's realistic some of T-Lew's minutes go to Leech.

I don't think there is any reason to redshirt him unless it is for a legit medical reason.
