I would guess an appeal will go nowhere, but I'm not surprised the owner is going down that road.
Why wouldn't they run the horse in the Preakness? Was it always the plan to hold the horse out of that race unless it won the Derby and had a shot at the Triple Crown? I guess I don't understand that decision.

Those are some expensive grapes. It's like a million dollar payout for the winning horse.
I know, but if you own a horse on that level $1 million is probably pocket change.
Is that particular horse the one that will fill the seats at the Preakness? What a ******* moron! "I'll sit my horse out and pass up a possible massive payout just to show you guys!" He'll probably change his mind when he realizes nobody cares! Reminds me of the NFL boycotter's who thought the NFL was going to shut down if they quit watching.
It's not just the race purse, either. How many millions is he missing out on in potential stud fees for a Preakness winner? I don't follow horse racing so maybe there's a perfectly good reason he's holding the horse out, but I'm not seeing it.
That's where the big money is. If that horse won both the Preakness and the Belmont his stud fees would go way up because many breeders will view Maximum Security as a Triple Crown horse.
Could be just resting for the Belmont and if he wins that they could use that and his performance at the derby to justify a big stud fee. Also not taking a chance at getting hurt in 1 more race - I don’t know.
He could have been claimed for $16k only 6 months ago, which is insane.
The only thing I can think is maybe he wants to run the horse in the Breeders Cup this year too and thinks 4 races is too much. That's assuming he runs the Belmont.

Kentucky has mishandled this. The lawyers for the Jockey released a video showing what happened from his perspective. It actually showed pretty well why the horse jumped out. They then suspended him. I think there is a case to be made for the disqualification but absolutely no way is there a case to suspend the jockey.
I think it's interesting that the commission has no appeal process in place. The race stewards essentially get the final say in the process.
