***2019 Kentucky Derby***

One of my friends had $50 on Maximum Security. Let’s just say he’s not happy right now

Why did they change the winner? Keep in mind I don't know **** about horse racing.
Maximum Security crossed into another “lane” when he wasn’t in the clear, so it’s hind leg bumped into another horse impeding and throwing it a little off balance. This DQ’d him. Thus, shifting all other horses up 1 spot. The second place horse, Country House, went from 2nd to 1st.
Country House was the beneficiary of the DQ.

I don't know a ton, but Maximum Security definitely went WAY wide in the final turn. Went from lane 1 out to about lane 3 or 4 and forced several other horses to go even wider to get around. Nearly tripped up the horse next to it, which could have been terrible.

It was probably the correct call, but awfully hard to make in the biggest race of the year.

If you freeze this at the 5 sec mark, you see there are two troughs (channels) of water in the mud. Maximum Security is just on the inside of the 1st trough of water. He then crosses over that trough, and then goes even further out and crosses even the 2nd trough too. Probably goes a good 8 ft wide of where he should be, which forces the other horses out wide too.

Is that all?

20 screwed up all the exactas and fectas by being in there at all (65-1 gtfo and don’t ruin this for every better please) 7 was my break even straight bet. The DQ was, let’s just say, quite the negative swing...

Correct call, but sucks when you picked the winner who probably goes wire to wire anyway but throws an unnecessary block.

Here’s a write up of it. War of Will got impeded but didn’t complain. The issue I think is that the foul likely didn’t affect the outcome. My understanding is that it needs to affect the outcome in order for them to change things. Of the two that complained the one gave up and didn’t race finishing almost last. The other wasn’t impeded. The one that probably was impeded also fell back and wasn’t going to compete for a placing.

Didn’t have money on it this year but I would be pissed. Sounds like some foreign pools paid out for Macimum Security.

Once a horse loses momentum by being bumped, it can affect the rest of their race. Just because they finished near the back doesn’t mean they couldn’t have won. Max security changed the race for 2 other horses, and you can’t know how it would have turned out. Likely would have won, but that doesn’t matter.

I have a friend that put $50 on country house....not so negative for him.

You can’t know but the two that had any argument of interference both gave up. At least for me and the horse racing people I know you have to at least still compete.

Here is what I saw for those who say only 2 horses were impacted. The 1 and the 18 were cut off badly...dangerously in my opinion...and the 18 moved out also, bumping the 20. Had the 18 not moved, he could have gone down which would have been awful.

While the 20 appeared to have been impacted the least, he certainly was.
