NFL: ***Official Offseason Thread***

The Cardinals are doing a pretty nice job of not showing their hand with what they plan on doing with the first pick. I think they either want to take Murray or try to move out of the top spot for a haul of picks.

Are they shopping Rosen around, or not? I'm thinking that would be a pretty clear indicator that they're taking Murray, and that they think he's a plug and play from Day 1.

If they thought highly enough of Rosen to pick him last year then you would think trading back would be the thing to do.

I took a look at Rosen's stats for last year. 45 sacks !!!!
They had a pretty anemic rushing attack 84 ypg while giving up 154 ypg so I would think the opposing defenses had plenty of opportunities to just go after the QB

It's hard to say, he obviously didn't have much help on either side of the ball. I'm glad I'm not a GM.

I think they very quietly shopped him before free agency and didn't hear what they wanted in terms of compensation; third or fourth round was the best offer from what I remember reading.

I don't know. If they're sold on Murray as the franchise guy then they may as well take what they can get for Rosen and move on. If they aren't taking Murray at #1 then I think the best bet is to trade down out of there and actually try giving Rosen something to work with. They have so many holes to fill that they need every pick they can get their hands on.

He really didn't look good at all last year, but it's hard to put together a more adverse scenario for a young QB. Most QBs taken that early are set up to fail to some extent just because the team that takes them is pretty bad to begin with, but Rosen got an especially bad draw. It might do him a world of good to start over with another team that has an established QB and hold a clipboard for a season or two.

@BMWallace , yeah, I'm no fan of the franchise tag but if the Seahawks have it at their disposal they're going to use it. Wilson is too image-conscious to threaten to stay away or miss games. Players never win the PR battle when they sit or hold out.

Fair, the PR never looks good for the player. At least Russ could pull a Jordan and go play baseball for the season.

Man I hate these massive contracts because that means the Chiefs are going to have to PAAAAAY Mahomes and teams with QBs on massive contracts rarely do well. Just ruins the salary cap and the supporting cast around the QB.

So it goes with having a really good QB. But ask yourself this - would you rather have Alex Smith on a nice upper-middle class contract or Pat Mahomes on a mega deal? You already know how one of those options turns out.

How about Mahomes on a nice upper class contract. Like $24M per year, in the range of Brees, Rivers, Roethlisberger, Cam. That's a $20M per year raise...

Those contracts only become palatable as other guys in line for new deals keep raising the bar. You have the best young QB in the league, arguably the best QB regardless of age. He's going to get paid as such. And then at the end of that contract the number will look like a bargain because he'll have been leapfrogged by four or five other guys, and then he'll leapfrog them again. Andrew Luck's last contract extension a few years ago looked like a monster. His 2019 salary is 27.5 million, which looks downright quaint compared to what some other guys will make this year.
