Iowa offering free tickets for the MSU game

Has anyone taken into consideration that Ames is 20 minutes from Ankney, 30 minutes from DSM/ waukee and 40 min from west des moines? A lot more population closer to ames than there is to Iowa CIty. So days like today when roads are not great and schools are being let out early because of it people within a hour radius are more likely to go to games than fans that need to drive 2+ hours

I don't think you want to go down this road...

Yep, already discussed. Basically concluded with the following:

ISU has a pool of 325,000 fans in their back yard and Iowa has a pool of 195,000 fans in their back yard.

First the free tickets, then then references back to Iowa football, and now a logistics issue. Seriously the Iowa fanbase is horrible and their excuses are even worse!

Cyclone State.
Hilton doesn't need to give out free tickets.
Bowl game attendance this last season.
school enrollment.

This is incredibly inaccurate.

Just going with the numbers that were posted on post #233 by one of the Cyclone fans that said this:

"To further argue the numbers. Let's just agree for the sake of discussion the Des Moines Metro is 55/45 Iowa/ISU. Let's also argue the Cedar Rapids metro is 75/25 Iowa lean.
Des Moines Metro is about 650,000, so 325,000 population pool to attend an ISU event. Des Moines to Ames is 33 miles.

Cedar Rapids Metro is about 260,000"

190,000 is 75% of 260,000.

Iowa’s attendance issues for basketball have very little to do with the population base around the Iowa City area. Iowa fans in general are not as passionate about their basketball program as Iowa State fans, and it has been that way for as long as I can remember. It’s the exact inverse for football, and that is what you would expect; Iowa is a football school and Iowa State is a basketball school.

Trying to excuse Iowa’s attendance issues by complaining about Iowa State’s proximity to the DSM-metro area is embarrassing. Please stop.

Comparing Iowa's fan support for their basketball team with ISU's support of their football team is completely ignorant and/or dishonest. (Apparently you missed all the years where ISU drew 50K+ average for a three win team.)

Typical Iowa fan. Just oscillates from side to side, never goes anywhere not even to home games, blows hot air around, just need to clean the dirt and dust from it, a single fanbase, get one at a garage sale for less than $10 or even "free", and never comes back with excuses about why they can't sell out a basketball game against a conference rival.

Why? Seems about right to me. Iowa fans are more spread out across the state and nation than are ISU fans I feel.

Oh, so you have too many fans across the nation for them to show up for basketball games. That makes sense.

I do hope that this comment was an attempt at sarcastic humor.....otherwise you are quite obtuse and need to read the previous 20 pages of posts before commenting.

Let's go with some completely disinterested sources:

https://theathletic.com/464905/2018...fan-base-and-a-team-not-to-be-underestimated/

https://saturdayblitz.com/2018/02/20/iowa-state-football-3-reasons-cyclones-loyal-fan-base-country/

OK, now you go with disinterested reporters lauding how great Iowa's basketball fan support is.

Anybody else think students should have an allotment of free tickets for every game? I think Duke and some other schools do this. With the cost of tuition combined with TV money etc I don’t really see a reason to have them paying...
