Wigginton

I'm not arguing with anything you've said here. I was agreeing with NWB's point minutes being reduced, not his overall minutes. He has a good an offensive skill set as anyone on the team.

And Wigginton obviously isn't at full strength yet - I understand CSP wanted the offense to go at KSU without a timeout, but that clearly wasn't the best shot we could have gotten.

Two horrible shots at the end the last two games.

I’m just gonna say this.

If I’m cooking a pizza and it has to be out of the oven exactly at the 40 minute mark, I know I can rely on Wiggington and Babb to get that pizza out any time between the 1 and 39 minute mark. But when I need it out at the 40 minute mark, both of them are nowhere to be found.
That's a weird analogy.

I do believe that NWB defense is a little overrated. He can get pretty lazy on 3 point defense and he didn’t exactly come to play defensively against Makai Mason.
Could be, but it’s still better than the other options and his offense is more efficient.

I'm not saying he's great. I'm saying he's at least passable, which puts him ahead of Wigginton at this point. Wigginton's Offensive Rating is 102, which is absolutely horrible.

I think Wigginton will get it going again. I believe he's a great player. But there is no reasonable case that Wigginton should be playing more than Babb.

This. I love Nick, and he brings so much to the game, but his body language sometimes just isn't conducive to the game. Drives me nuts when he brings the ball up so slowly, dribbles at the top of the key forever, and then has to create something when the shot clock runs down.

I mean, it was pretty obvious Saturday that up-tempo, attacking basketball was what got us into the lead. Let the defense set up? Why? Run at them, make them get out of what they are comfortable with. NWB just didn't want that, he walked the ball up almost every time.

I'd have to check but pretty sure this what Monte Morris did.

This game, and several others in his tenure. This really is CSP's weak spot - when the game is tight and the players get tight, he doesn't have any answers.

Ironically, this was one of CFH's strengths - going 2 for 1 on possessions at end of halves, having a play set up for the last 4 seconds, in-bounds plays, etc. Situational basketball, I think he called it, and they practiced it a lot (much more than defense LOL).

CSP does not seem to spend any time on these things, and it seems like it would be a fairly easy thing to add to practice. Would help the players be ready to know what to do and succeed in late game situations.

I hope CSP figures this out, because he is a hell of a recruiter, good defensive coach, and seems to be good with player development too.

Yeah....just have something in place for 5 seconds/full court situations. It doesn't happen that often-pretty sure you can have just one simple thing that has multiple options and run it.

Heck, they had ample time to get across half court, and could have called time out right there Saturday to then set something up for a more controlled look.

But then the inability to get the ball in bounds would have reared its head again.

Prohm has them playing way too slow. This isn't a half court team. They don't have a low post scoring presence. They need to be running and pushing tempo. This is the slowest temp they have had since 2009. It is also why I think some of ISU's kenpom numbers are inflated. It tends to be more favorable to slower teams and while he has adjusted to counteract that over the years, I believe it still does to some extent.

Prohm has done nothing but talk about getting out and running since he got here. You can't be taking it out of the basket though, and you can't be allowing offensive rebounds, or you're not going to be able to run much. I think we've dialed it back a little to counter the latter problem too.

He forced a lot of shots but we need his rim attacking ability.

LW is a shooting guard. Not a point guard !!!!!! He has talent but is not being required to refine it. WAY too many mistakes and hero shots. This team with a couple of exceptions is fundamentally terrible. Thats on the coaching staff.

Hurt to see the photo in the Ames Trib yesterday. 1.9 seconds still on the clock!

This team has a lot of good players and as a whole, a lot of problems. We are what we are and it’s not going to change. Let’s just hope we are good enough to start a nice winning streak.

Disagree re: Wigg is not being required to refine his PG talents. After watching the replay of the game, Wigg is passing the ball much better than he did last year and, with the notable exception of not finding an open Haliburton at the end of the KSU game, he made two of the best passes in the game: threading the left-handed baseline bounce pass for a layup and the wrap around pass to the open man in the corner. Those two were as good as any Monty ever made and not something Wigg could have done last season. Just needs to cut down on forced shots in the lane. 3-pt shooting is getting back to form, 38% the last two games.

Yes that was painful. Lollygag in the backcourt to the timeline, then speed up too much and shoot too early. Was plenty of time to go all the way to the bucket for a layup.

That goes 1000% to my earlier point of not practicing situational ball. CSP didn't call timeout and said just go, but our guys didn't know what to just go and do.

The offense isn't getting the ball to an open look, no threat of slashing to the basket, no give and go, no rotations, I'm so confused after watching Saturday in Hilton

Definitely not all on him obviously, but man he just is a complete ball stopper on offense lately.
Constantly driving into traffic. Also seems to slip alot. Not sure if he's trying to cut too hard or what. To live up to the hype he needs to be able to create his own shot and nail it.

I feel like they almost pass TOO much at times. They pass up good looks and end up taking a shot that is a far lower % shot. It is good to see unselfish play, but they need to pull the trigger.
