OT - Cutting Cable

We are cutting the cord this week for the final time (had done it in 2015 but Sling drove us back to DTV). We are going to start with YouTube TV but may try out Hulu as well. I am wanting to eventually hook up an outdoor OTA antenna with the hopes of using the existing DTV mount on the house/cable. Has anyone done this? If so what antenna do you use?

Also anyone in the CR area recommendations on antennas would be appreciated. The last time we did this we just used indoor antennas that were good but the location of the fox antenna to the rest made it difficult and frustrating. We are in Bowman Woods so about 25ish miles from the antennas.

Thinking of switching my internet provider as I have Mediacom currently but have a plan that costs 60.00 for 250gb which if I use roku I get super close to really quick every month. Its just me so I dont care to spend close to 100 dollars a month for internet through them. Ive looked in Century Link but my modem doesnt appear to work with DSL (no clue if that can work with it or not) It works with cable (through mediacom). Anyone know how that works, or would I just have to buy yet another modem/router duo?

CL comes in through phone lines, rather than coax cable, so you'll need a different modem for CL. You shouldn't need to change out your router though, unless you're using the Mediacom modem/router that's one device. I would avoid these anyway. If you have a separate modem and router, you only need to replace the modem.

I looked more into Century Link and the best I can get for speed at my location is the lowest possible so Im going to have to stick with mediacom and hope another server eventually comes in that can compete with them.

I use this RCA one that I got from Amazon a few months back, so far so good.

EDIT: CF keeps trying to turn my amazon link into a media thing, so the title of this particular item is:
RCA Compact Outdoor Yagi HDTV Antenna with 70 Mile Range

I'm located in Johnston and all locals (including the sometimes difficult to get ABC) come in great. I have it mounted to the side-wall mount that my dish was previously on - not the prettiest, but it's in between houses so barely seen. I imagine it'd look fine on a roof.

We finally cut it from Spectrum yesterday and went with PS Vue. No issues or complaints so far.

We are testing out PS Vue. So far, I'm fairly satisfied with it, with the exception of how it will do some things sometimes. For example, not ALL shows on the channel guide will play live, especially the ESPNews channel. I had to use the WatchESPN app to watch the ISU/Baylor game.

Also, the recent update where it takes me from the guide to a screen to "choose" the channel or to DVR a program, rather than just taking me to to the channel is annoying.

I also wish you could go farther out on the guide. However, the streaming quality is excellent, and blows the Sling away. Also, you don't have to deal with all the gmail account challenges of YouTube.

I do like being able to watch it on 3 different TVs and my wife and I's phones as well for $45 a month, can't beat that.

So far, no channels that we really miss.

I was not a fan of Hulu's latest major UI update.

Yea the current UI of really clumsy. We've just stuck with it because we already had hulu and was only $28 more for the live tv. I use philo (well worth the $16) a lot and jump back and forth depending on the channel and sports. I use philo most of the time.

Did the same. Disconnected from dish yesterday and we are Vue peeps now. Only issue is we had to bump up our data limits. Now I'm paranoid about falling asleep with the TV on.

You can setup your router to restrict internet services overnight. So even if your box or provider don't have activity timeouts, it'll still protect you from data caps.

Is there somebody in the Ankeny area that would come out and diagnose LAN/Wifi set up? I have a NETGEAR C7000 cable modem router on Mediacom 100 down. We used to have PSVue but my speeds range anywhere from <1 to almost 100, with avg speeds in the teens. Mediacom has come out many times, but all they ever do is replace end pieces.

So either it's my set up or it's Mediacom. Since MC is incompetent, I want somebody to optimize what's in my house.

I have a netgear modem with mediacom, but then run a ubiqiti wifi router. I had an all in one before, and had all kinds of wifi issues. Changed to this: https://www.ui.com/unifi/unifi-ap-ac-pro/ and the world is awesome now.

Same problem here. I would love to ditch Mediacom but CL is our only other option and their speeds suck here.

CL refuses to invest into established neighborhoods and it's absolutely maddening. As much as I didn't want to move to Mediacom I refused to give CL another dime for their crappy product.
