Scouting Drake

I am really interested to see what ISU's backup receivers can do. Last year we knew who was going to take Lazard's spot, but this year, there hasn't been a definitive answer on who will take Hakeem's spot.

That would be Josh Johnson #13 in the 2020 season.

i am really tempted to put money on drake I just dont think we will run up the score that much even if we can
Drake has a good passing game so they could possibly put up some points, but they have no running game and give up a ton of sacks. I hope we are bringing pressure all game long. I could see ISU just pounding the rock a lot and have some time consuming drives. So taking that bet might be a good idea.

Personally I hope we air it out a lot and put up video game numbers, but I'm a stat nerd.

I had two Drake grads asking how to get tickets, is the athletic department selling tickets? How do people get in if they didn’t go/buy tickets to the SDSU game?

I thought about that too, but then I realized they're non-scholarship D2 or whatever and there's a chance they can't stop anything regardless of what we run.

Drake is D1. They are in the FCS same as South Dakota State, NDSU, UNI, incarnate word, etc. and the winner of their Pioneer league gets automatic bid to FCS playoffs. Yes teams in Drake’s conference do not provide scholarships. So teams in Drake’s conference would not normally be scheduled by FBS teams since the game would not count for bowl eligibility. We already have enough wins that bowl eligibility is not a concern.

I imagine there are lots of people selling them on third party markets.

My take on the game, assuming ISU jumps out to a 28-0 lead after the 1st quarter

1st Qtr
QB Purdy and offensive/defensive starters play entire 1st quarter
2nd Qtr
QB Real-Mitchell, 2nd teamers, and freshmen who won't burn eligibility
3rd Qtr
QB Real-Mitchell, 2nd teamers, and freshmen who won't burn eligibility
4th qtr
QB Kyle Kempt, and a collection of newcomers and senior subs

I think we'll see Drake with a few surprisingly successful plays on offense and defense however

I'm having a hard time being convinced why DM, Butler, or Purdy should play. Convince me otherwise.

Bowl game count for stats so DM will get to 1000 in the bowl game. Also, Campbell has never struck me as a stats guy anyway.

Has anyone seen them play this year? Based on stats alone this is what I have gathered...

They have a decent passing game, with one really good WR and a QB that is not half bad. Their run game is abysmal, averaging 2.7 yards per carry, and they have given up 37 sacks. I like that.

On defense, they are really tough on 3rd and 4th downs and in the redzone, but overall their defense is nothing special. Drake has 3 players that are 300 or more lbs.

Any insight from anyone who knows more about them?

I am looking at their roster, and this is amazing.

Jack Conlon, a 7 year old from my hometown (Clarion) that is battling cancer, is not only listed on their roster, but he has his own locker and signed a letter of intent to the team. Lots of respect to Drake! I went to school with Jack's dad and used to school him at basketball. I left Clarion not long after high school and haven't been back and had no idea Tom had a son that was fighting cancer. Best wishes to young Jack and the entire family.
Trying to figure out why someone would disagree with this post.

but yet not good enough to win their league
San Diego went undefeated in conference and won. Drake would've been 2nd by themselves if they didn't lose to Stetson on a last second defensive stop/fumble/picked up for TD. Drake held SD well below their scoring average, but SD's above average defense was still better than Drake's pretty average offense.

San Diego had 14 all conference honorees total, only 1 of which was HM. I'm not sure how much Drake rotated players, but they have 12 players receiving all conference honors on defense; 5 on first team, 3 on second team, and 4 HM.
