Iowa Football Recruiting

I asked, because when the richardson versus Beathard was discussed, it is similar to the Purdy versus Stanley situation now. Richarson was a returner who had an ok season and Beathard was a hyped guy who had play about a game. That is why people took Richardson, the known, versus beathard, the unknown.

The thing is you can tell if a QB has that "it factor" or not pretty early IMO. Beathard had that. I would say even Stanzi and Tate had it. It appears Purdy has that as well, I mean the kid knocked off a top 25 team on the road in his first start looking like Baker Mayfield out there but that is still very premature. The one thing we do know is Stanley doesn't have it

Stanley just isn't consistent. He has "it" sometimes. We will see if Purdy has "it" consistently or not.

If by "it" you mean a pizza ranch craving, then yes Stanley has it.

Agree to disagree. He has all the tools but I don't think he has any of the X factor to be a good to great QB

He is capable of having "it", just needs to be consistent with it, which he hasn't shown he can do yet. Still not a bad QB by any means and he is pretty good. But he has a ways to go to be great.

I wouldn't say a middle of the road Big Ten QB is "pretty good" but to each their own

You either have it or you don’t. Not something you can sometimes have. If it is inconsistent, then they don’t have it.

Bingo. Iowa's had QB's that had it previously, they don't have one now that has it

We know how stubborn kirk is with QBs so if I were an iowa fan I'd be worried. Not sure why mansell hasn't had some meaningful snaps? Oh well I guess something's never change.

Seems like you can't judge QB's at all. Obviously Richardson and Lanning didn't have "it" and CJ did. You were wrong about all 3 of them.

Stanley is a good QB and will be drafted after his Sr. year. His Comp. % is up 6% over last year. His Yards per attempt are up 1.3 Yard from last year. He is on pace to increase his total yards by nearly 600 over last year as well.

Agreed. I'm not sure I ever said Richardson was better than CJ and if I did it was because he was proven to be average like Stanley. I said many times CJ was a better QB than Lanning was

Stanley is a middle of the road QB in a conference with not great QB's. Those are the facts

Q. The four guys that were suspended, you mentioned you might have them doing something different this week. What was kind of the -- what did you have them doing instead of playing in the game?
KIRK FERENTZ: This past week? They did community service work. It's a pretty standard rule we have. They got four hours in on Friday and eight more on Saturday and missed the game. But they're in mind and spirit, and they came back Sunday and we've welcomed them back, and they're all doing a good job. Really happy with the way they've handled it. Obviously wish they hadn't been in that situation, but I think they've handled it the way we would hope, and what's most important now is they continue to do that, and I expect that from all four guys. I think they've got a great attitude.
