Ending Iowa's Dominance

I'm gonna guess there's a number of Hawk fans that would love to have Bielema around.

They're roped in with the same ISU fans who wanted Lane Kiffin.

It's a certain type of special that thinks a total dirtbag should be the face of the football program.
Wow, what if it came down to Section-8-Housing-Wall-Puncher-Ferentz versus Bielema in a ****-bag contest? Not quite Pol Pot versus Hitler, but you get the idea.

It’s just one game - chill the F out. Iowa was favored for a reason.

And the school enrollment argument is a dumb one. UCF has had larger enrollment than Miami, Florida, and Florida State. Those 3 programs have multiple national titles and dozens of conference crowns. What’s UCF have? Same for Notre Dame, etc....

People who constantly bring up the school enrollment are usually from small towns. Kind of a stupid argument

As I said earlier, dwelling on such streaks is pointless. What counts is creating and maintaining an upward trend in recruiting and in building a program. If CMC can do that, then the wins will come. Letting Hawk fans, like the OP, frame the way we view things is a mistake.

I have bad news for you clonelaw.....but the U of I hates our fricking guts and if Kirk Fairy gets a chance to better raisin face's 15 wins in a row he will do anything to make it 16 wins in a row......I have heard all of this happy horse talk about getting better......It has never happened for long because we have NO and I mean NO recruiting base in this state or the midwest......Recruit or Die as they say......

I hope we can get to the point where our fans don't carry a massive chip on their shoulder. Everyone's always out to get us. It's not a good look.

The chip on the shoulder comes when every team comes into ames and at halftime the score is 21-0....and we reside in last place for 22 years ........

You have it backwards. We're not going to start getting the in state studs until we are on equal footing with Iowa, which means winning 6-9 games every year for 10 years. That might be a little exaggerated, but the perception and reality in state, while trending in a positive direction, is that Iowa is a superior program to Iowa State.

As long as we keep recruiting like we have since Campbell started, we will have a chance. There are plenty of good players in the Midwest. I don't give a **** if they're from Iowa or South Dakota or Ohio.

This program in its history has never been able to average 6 wins a season for 10 years and probably never will be able to do that......Some schools like Iowa have the money and conf resources to win over a 40 year period and I dont ever see a basketball school like ISU ever doing that for an extended time.....

You'd best read more carefully. Nowhere in any of my posts did I say that.a recruiting base in the Midwest couldn't be important. There's a hell of a lot more to the Midwest than the State.of Iowa (you may have noticed Campbell and company are recruiting the Midwest more than some of our past failed coaches). But hey man, if you want to live in the tired old framework that Old Raisinface tried to box us in, then go ahead. Support the Hawk troll OP.

Just don't demand that the rest of us dwell in the Stone Age with you. Campbell and his team have brought a fresh approach to recruiting that has begun to yield results. That is why old Section 8 Young Ferentz was complaining. He could fail, but the trend is encouraging. And if he continues to right the ship, then wins will follow, and so too will more Iowa recruits.

I'd rather have Ray Lima and Montgomery, just for example, than the very best Iowa kids at their position and class. Obviously, Campbell and company have a lot to make up for for mistakes made in the past in recruiting offensive linemen. Time will tell if they get that done.

If Campbell continues to ramp up the talent (which only time will tell) then wins over Iowa will come.

What’s your point? Doesn’t make them better players; they just fit the NoFlagLeague’s syle of play. There have been plenty of great college players who never excelled at the professional level.

Wait wait wait. Are you saying NFL GM's regularly pass over better more talented football players in favor of subpar players who fit a certain style? Cause that's just crazy town.

Need to stop defining success by comparing this program to Hawkeyes. Campbell is trying to build a solid Big 12 program. Iowa will continue to be a 7-9 win BIG 10 program regardless of what Iowa State does. Let's start comparing to Kansas State, Oklahoma St., Baylor etc. to judge success.

Iowa was extremely fortunate to hire two good to great coaches who were content to stay in Iowa City. They were on their way to being a perennial doormat at the end of Fry's tenure, and hit a home run with the Ferentz hire.

All of Iowa State's good hires have left because we've never given them the support to make Ames and ISU anything more than a stepping stone. The university, athletic department, alumni base, and fanbase have never been in a better position to change that perception. With Campbell, it seems like we have the right guy to make us a consistent winner. With Rhoads, it always felt like McCarney 2.0. If we can keep going to bowl games and keep giving Campbell all the toys he needs, we can get to Iowa's level. It's going to take at least another generation to turn the tide from a fan number standpoint, but we've already gained significant ground there.

All of that and hope that Brian is nowhere near the leader or developer of talent that Kirk is. He obviously knows the recipe, but it doesn't seem like Brian is a chip off the ol' block when it comes to temperament.
How is ISU a "stepping-stone" program? We've fired every coach since Earle Bruce in 1978 except for Chizik. We would have fired him ultimately, but he left before we could.

Your post is spot on and deserves repitition. Sometimes too much obsession with TOE among our community. Granted, it's easier for those of us who live out of state to ignore them. ISU focus needs to be on Iowa the week we play them, otherwise we need to do what we have to compete in the Big XII.

Well put. Most in-state rivalries are also in-conference (Mich/MSU, Ala/Aub, Ok/OK St, Or/Or. St, etc.) This one is not.

Agree, but we got the post with the other 3 posts, no need for a 4th.

LOL

I guess the unemployment line needs a stepping stone first, but usually it's a liberal arts degree from Iowa.
