Ending Iowa's Dominance

Nebraska lost to Colorado at home. The 2018 version of the Buffs is a tough matchup for most teams. They’ll win 9 games this year and contend for the PAC 12 title.

Minnesota is 2-0 and beat Fresno State last night. Fresno hung 79 on Idaho last week. They won 10 games including a bowl win over Houston (who beat OU) last season. Fresno isn’t a “no one” by any stretch of the imagination.

Illinois played a UNI type FCS team. Actually that team beat UNI last year but I think the Illini may be a 4-5 win team this year. We’ll see

Houston didn’t play OU last year. What are you talking about?

You think Anthony Nelson has Big12 speed? Josey Jewell was a great B1G linebacker and I still remember him getting destroyed by McCaffery and Montgomery in open space.

He has NFL speed. I would hope McCaffery (2015 Heisman runner up) would be better in open space than a MIKE LB. I dont recall Montgomery outside of one run being all that great in ‘17. Sure, Barkley made him miss a few times, but then again he was the best RB in the country last year. Your understanding and perspective when it comes to football seems very rudimentary and naive.

ISU's schedule isn't that hard with a decent team.

Look at their first 6 games then look at ours. Easy to see which is more likely to let fans puff out their chests. I don’t think there is a large talent difference between ISU and Iowa at all. I expect that anytime they beat us they should at least contend for a spot in the B1G title game as we will be one of the toughest teams they play.

Ask our right tackle if Nelson was fast enough yesterday to play in the big 12. And I'm pretty sure if you are good enough to make an NFL roster you are good enough to play in the B12. I might be wrong about other things but I am not wrong about that.

They're going to do that anyway.

Back of the schedule has winnable games and if ISU's decent, they'll win a few of the next 5.

Not really. Fresno is still a good football team and likely would beat teams in both leagues. Could argue that they’re a better program than ISU historically and over the last 25 years.

Sucks losing to the Hawks, and sucks even more losing four in a row. They're a good program and they can point to the scoreboard and settle the argument pretty quickly about who is the "better team". All these nuanced arguments about who is more talented, who has the stronger schedule or who plays what style are a waste of time.

The good news is that the days are long gone when TOE success means ISU loses ground. It's not a zero sum game. ISU football has fans, resources and support like it never has before. We aren't part of the Big 10 West (thank God) and I don't give a crap what happens to hoks the rest of the season. I care about us fighting our way up the ranks in OUR league. I won't worry about Iowa again until we have to play them again next year.

It’s just one game - chill the F out. Iowa was favored for a reason.

And the school enrollment argument is a dumb one. UCF has had larger enrollment than Miami, Florida, and Florida State. Those 3 programs have multiple national titles and dozens of conference crowns. What’s UCF have? Same for Notre Dame, etc....

Out of the last 20 years they've won 11. No capital D required. Quite frankly, we shouldn't give a damn where the athletes are from. They want to become Cyclones..that makes them "our kids", not some arbitrary boundary lines drawn up over 150 years ago and the accident of their birthplace or where they grew up. We should get the best players we can that fit our scheme...period!!!

Over the last 11 it’s 8-3. That’s a positively Fran McCaffery-esque record against a rival. They’ve won 4 in a row. Let’s leave ancient history right where it belongs.

As I said earlier, dwelling on such streaks is pointless. What counts is creating and maintaining an upward trend in recruiting and in building a program. If CMC can do that, then the wins will come. Letting Hawk fans, like the OP, frame the way we view things is a mistake.
