Graham Couch: Iowa Basketball is a mid-major roster

Iowa's recruiting future is depending on Fran's kid's ability to recruit his friends. Fran got his undeserved extension because Barta didn't want to stop the recruiting "momentum" due the commitment of his 2 children and Westkamp.

It really is quite comical.

Since Shaka Smart took over as a P5 coach he has underwhelmed by quite a bit honestly. so that would be close in the big 12. I already stated why I do not want weber because that would be a virtual push unless you go back past the last 5 years while he coached in the big 10.

Other coaches get a pass in the big 12 because they have coached 3 years or less and have a lot of talent coming.

what about the ACC?
Danny Manning
Jim Christian
Josh Pastner

what about the SEC?
There are about 3-4 here too that are worse

What about the PAC 12?
again at least 3-4 that are not as good or have a better resume

So the are about 10-15 guys, which is still bad, that are worse. I am not happy with Fran, but that is who we have and I want him to succeed as long as he is here. Can Fran turn it around? I think he can if he gets good recruits, which is something he has not done at Iowa since the Gesell Woody class. He got Cook but one guy cant do it unless he has someone else.
Weiskamp is a great start. IF we can somehow get Terry or Carton(5% chance here) we could be making a push for good improvement. That is all I am saying and want. But chances are it will not happen.

Why do you Hawkeye fans give Fran so much credit for recruiting weiskamp? A cardboard box could have recruited him to Iowa. That's where he wanted to play, it wasn't because Fran did a great job selling Iowa bball and definitely wasn't Fran convincing him he's a great coach and is good at player development, we all know better than that. Fran did deserve props for cooks recruitment because he is talented, out of state kid that didn't grow up wanting to be a Hawkeye.

Fran has only proven that he can recruit legacy or life long hok fans to make them respectable. If there aren't any around, they are going to be awful. Even when he gets those guys that are life long hok fans and highly rated, they dramatically under achieve because he is the worst in-game coach out there. His rotations are a joke, he has no idea how to use timeouts, he has 0 respect from officials because he pouts like a small child. Players just quit on him because he gets in their face and screams at the. He's the biggest d-bag coach I've ever seen. Perfect for IC. They will never make the tournament again under his watch. He's in way over his head. He is clearly the worst.

This is sort of like Iowa's version of the Harrison Barnes recruitment. Local-ish kid that has ties to the program in some sort, said program isn't very good, high-rated kid, and is dragging said school along before he jumps to a thriving program.

This isn't anywhere close to the Barnes situation.

This includes the big 8 teams genious
Maybe you should give us a link to where you got your numbers. Were Nebraska's spectacular repeated first round flameouts included in the Big 10 or Big 12 numbers? After all, Tommie Frazier and Eric Crouch are often included in lists of the best Big 10 quarterbacks of all time.

They quit early and often last year.

Diva problem was way out of control.

Even if the hawks are in the top 4 for Carton, that doesn't equate to a 25% chance. You know that right? Unless Carton had said it's an even split between my top 4 teams, which he hasn't.

Say Carton did cut it down to four, and Iowa made the top 4 with Michigan, tOSU, and Marquette.

That still doesn't mean it's an even race between all 4. It would more likely be 50% for the favorite, 25% for the second team and 12.5 for 3 and 4.

Point being, there's usually a favorite, which lowers the odds for anyone else in the top 4 or 5 or whatever.

You get that right?

....sooo, then you do.

Even if he absolutely believes that Iowa is in the top 4 for Carton, that in no way equates to a 25% chance unless he really thinks it's an even 4 team race to the finish, which is highly unlikely. There's almost always a favorite. And if you think you "might" be in the top for, you're probably not the favorite.

I think Iowa has a better shot than some other people on here because they have been recruiting him for so long and he has a relationship with other players. I have no idea what the kid is ultimately looking for in a school though. Has he said when he will decide?

I trust recruiting experts more than a Hawkeye fan pretending to be an ISU fan
