Graham Couch: Iowa Basketball is a mid-major roster

I have pointed out a few. My guess is the Iowa writer for the DM said Iowa was a NCAA team last year.

Looking back I can see the positive predictions just due to the fact they thought Jok could be replaced with his scoring. It did not happen. I looked at it as Jok was a leader and now we have a young team again. Then Williams leaving was a huge red flag to me at the beginning of the season. After that transfer and Connor being hurt or sick I knew Iowa was in trouble.

I get what you are saying, but they were in some trouble with or without Williams & Connor.

I am a pretty objective and realistic person if you did not know this already. Anything can happen in sports. I have predicted Iowa will go 21-12 at best next year with Cook and 16-15 at best without him. Iowas best outlook next year is a bubble team. AT BEST, and that is going to be extremely difficult to achieve. I also can see Iowa going 18-15 or whatever the record with Cook and being an NIT team. Which would make me turn off the blinders and want Fran gone. Why is this so difficult to understand for cyclone fans on this site. I agree with you that Iowa is flawed, but they have a chance to improve.

Yeah, but with the small sample size I saw that year when Jok was hurt I thought they were going to do OK. But then they stunk it up. Every year Iowa goes overseas they underachieve under Fran. I think he needs to analyze this a little more.

How bad must your program be if losing a bad mid major player is a huge red flag?

Are you just responding to yourself?

Take a step away and breathe for a little while.

Isnt what I said by being on the bubble thinking you could make the tournament? It also means that it could not happen. Its not like we thought we were going to win the BIG. We had flaws and those out weighed the good last year. Please tell me all of the local media that said Iowa was a NCAA lock last year. I have looked but I did not find it. Just post the link so I can read it because I really do not remember local media saying Iowa was a NCAA lock. I found an article on fox saying if no transfers and people improve then Iowa would be a BIG contender in 2018-2019. That was in the Spring of 2017. It also stated that there would be some growing pains too.

So, in a nut shell, some local guys and fans thought Iowa would make it to the NCAA, some like myself were hopeful but skeptical at the same time. They sucked last year, so I was wrong about thinking they were bubble caliber but not about them having a flaw. That flaw was worse than expected and....transfers, injuries, chemistry issues did not help.

Did I say lock somewhere? Good God man.

Seems fair enough to me.

No, he told Dylan Montz.

“I think the expectation from here on out is your goals as a program are to play in and win a bowl game, to beat your rivals and No. 3 is to compete and win a Big 12 championship,” Campbell said.

Love how you just assume what he is saying here when it comes to the "order of importance". How do you know he isn't simply stating the 3 things in any particular order? When he says "No. 3" that doesn't necessarily mean that is the 3rd most important

It's obvious as to why he thinks that.

Yeahbuddy likes to twist words a little bit.

Prohm recruited the best class in school history.

Even better than Hoiberg's class(es).

He'll win, no matter whose guys they are.

Prohm is luring more stars and higher percentage ratings than Fred, yes. Fred was supplementing the roster from other areas, though.

Fred also developed the heck out of some guys. It is less clear Prohm can do that with his own prep recruits. I am not particularly worried, though.

Prohm getting way more out of Thomas and Nader than Fred ever did, the night-and-day difference for Burton between the two seasons, and even the development of Nick Weiler-Babb as a PG make me think Prohm can develop guys fine.

Prohm can also point to his development of Canaan and Payne at Murry St as proof he can develop players. It is to early to say that he'll do that at ISU but, Wigginton and Lard look like all league performers in year 2 with pro potential.
