Graham Couch: Iowa Basketball is a mid-major roster

You do all this and still finished in last place by 4 games last season?
Two of those Sit-outs will be joining the team THIS year. And, not to make an excuse, but key injuries to our starters definitely affected our record. I doubt we make it to the NCAAs last year, but this team was doing quite well (9 wins in a row) with a healthy roster - the NIT was a legitimate possibility until injuries (and DJ's personal tragedy) hit.

Let's hold off judgment that the ISU way of rebuilding is a failure. There have been plenty of years to assess Mad Fran's recruiting strategy and the results haven't been very pretty for hokfan - especially considering that they were clamoring for the firing of Tom Davis because he couldn't get them to "the next level." AND, here we are, almost 2 decades later, and how has Mad Fran gotten you guys to the next level?

A lot of Hawk fans seem to think Connor will be some kind of star player for them next season, and be All B1G or something.

I do not know one Iowa fan that thinks this and have not seen any posts on an Iowa message board that predict this for Connor this season.

And why is it so hard for you to see that it's questionable any of Iowa's players belong on a good, average, or even poor PAC 12 or BIG team. I'll give you that Pemsl, Dailey, Bohannon and company do flash the goods at times, which might at least appear to theoretically support the notion that if they fight and scratch and claw they can belong on an upper half of conference Power 5 squad if everything goes right, but to claim that they have already done this is certainly dubious at best...And even then, you're going to have a whole team of plucky role players who punch above their weight? Doesn't that sound a little mid-majory to you, too? No one denies that mid majors can flash at this level; You're paying good money for this! Is it not unthinkable someone else out there could give you more for less than Fran? If no, then... Well... Dang it, man that's the saddest thing in America.
I'll add that this is why a UMBC can upset a Virginia. However, 99 times out of a 100, that game is likely a lop-sided victory for UVa. Iowa, with its mid-major talent can play close with a UM or MSU at times - but can also get their butts handed to them in a large chunk of the games it plays (even in a below-avg B1G) - which is exactly what happened last season.

That’s a long way from being a “star player” or all conference which is what @clonedude is claiming.

I think expecting him to be a starter is pretty optimistic but then again Fran has proven he's going to to make sure he's given his kid as many minutes as possible and he doesn't value defense so maybe he will start

It's a little early to say the rebuild has been completed, don't you think?
When Bill Self says there are two teams he is worried about next year, Kansas State and Iowa State, I would say we have got his attention with the team Prohm put together. Sure they have to bring results, but he can recruit, something Franny seems to have a problem with.
