Iowa Football Recruiting

All I know is Lanning and Lazard were mocked by Iowa fans all off season last year and now they're irreplaceable lol

Just like you admitted, offseason yes I was skeptical (like you were with not even knowing who Jackson was), then season came and I found respect for them both. So yeah I am interested in how this will play out without them there. Who steps up? I cant think of a guy for you that would be at that level right now.

Those 2 a really big loses and if you want to ignore that fine, but I think WR, LB, DB, and OL are questions for ISU next year. Who comes in when you need to score and move the chains like Lanning did against Memphis and Oklahoma and TCU? Who will be that go to clutch guy? Without Lanning last year you do not win those games.

WR, LB and CB will be strengths next year not question marks. Do your research

No, you were questioning if Jackson was the worst player in the Iowa secondary.

Because I didn't know who he was and it was week 2? The Ragubumba hype was off the charts at that point and all I knew was Jackson got torched by Butler at that point and Ragubumba sucked in general

Iowa might lack depth because of experience, but their incoming DL recruits do not suck and they lost 1 guy......AJ is fine. It is a luxury that he is not starting right at the moment because someone is talented and can spell him.

DB I am fine with what they have there for now. Let them develop. Someone new might pop up and dominate like King did, Jackson did, I could go on with that.

RB we are fine. Wadley was a stud, but we will get good production out of the other guys there.

OL we have talent here. Experience is not lacking as most have seen game action from last year. And it is the OL at Iowa

LB, a concern yes, but that doesnt mean we are lacking talent. It will be a learning curve there and mistakes will be made.

WR, a bit of a wild card here. We have a lot of athletes that could be talented, but they need experience. I think between Smith, Cooper, Smith-Marsette, Marchese, we can find another talented guy. Our TEs go 2 very good to studly guys to other talented guys. I think that helps bridge the gap. If we get Wagner to play football that could also be a weapon. New 2018 recruits will be helpful too in Tyrone Tracy, Sampson Evans, Calvin Lockett, Nico Ragaini. Those guys were actually legit targets. Athletes in Tracy and Evans but good talent and targets that can play anywhere and WR is the first guess. I think between the 8, potentially 9 guys that is a good base to find 1 or 2 other playmakers to go with Easley Fant and Hockensen.

I just dont understand it with the depth angle. ISU loses KEY leaders in Lazard and Lanning. 2 leaders that ISU has not had before IMO. Who keeps that moving along now that they are gone? WR has Bulter but who will be the LB that steps up there?
I won't comment on the depth part because I think both squads have a lot to prove from that side.

As for ISU losing leaders, it's true. Both Lazard & Lanning were great. However, there are unquestioned leaders returning. Montgomery & Peavy are leaders and have been said to be the hardest workers on the team. I also think Kempt is a great leader.

ISU's biggest questions in my book are the run blocking portion of the OL, replacing production at WR, MLB, & safety.

The OL returns 4 guys that each started at least 6 games (13 for JGJ, 13 for Knipfel, 7 for Meeker, 6 for Foster) in 2017. That's a good start. All we're also underclassmen in 2017 and should be a year better.

At WR ISU has some big losses but some good production returning. Butler was a 700 yard guy. Eaton is a big WR that has shown play making ability, and DeShaunte Jones has over 800 yards in his first two college seasons. Pair those 3 with RS guys and incoming recruits and I am confident they will be ok.

I am least concerned out of the 4 spots I mentioned with the MLB spot. ISU should have a solid DL and two pretty good OLB's to help out whoever wins the MLB spot. It'll likely be a youngster or one of the two OLB's if Northrup ends up winning a spot.

Safety is a legitimate concern with the lack of experience. Lewis & White got the starts in the bowl game and both played admirably as young guys and will contend to start. There is a shot that ISU goes after another grad transfer here. I'd be willing to bet that either Payne or Ruth end up at the STAR safety spot (they both need to be on the field). Hopefully Eisworth is the real deal. Regardless of who starts, there is a lot of inexperience and youth on the back end. It is my biggest concern.

You asked when you said Jackson sucked during the season last year. The answer was after Week 2 as you were questioning if he was the worst player in the Iowa secondary.

Like I said, you did the exact thing that you are now mocking Iowa fans for doing in regards to Lazard.

Not even remotely true. Iowa fans were saying Lazard was overrated and sucked all season long. I questioned Jackson after he got torched by Butler in week 2 and nobody even really knew he was. I'm glad you are happy with Ragubumba and your other CB's to replace Jackson though

I asked if Gervase the one that sucked or Jackson in early Sept because I wasn't sure who was who. I don't get how you can compare that to Iowa fans mocking Lazard and Lanning all season long but roll with it

Could be his secret account that he is dusting off....

No troll here, just a guy that is board and it is the offseason. I will eat my words on Iowa basketball if you check my posting on that. My god was that terrible. I just do not think CyTwins is as smart as he thinks he is. Clever yes, but smart idk.

Saying Iowa DL is not as good as Lima and whoever else is pretty dense. Mind boggling actually. Some ISU fans feel the same way too. That is what "urked me" mostly because it was way off base. And the fact that leadership is gone from the offense and defense for ISU is a bigger deal than is being let on here. Lanning was a stud leader. Lazard was also. Who is going to be THAT GUY... the go to guy when you are in close games and needing to find someone to step up... Lanning and Lazard were those guys last year. Monty might be, but he has a full year of wear and tear on him and that is typically hard for a RB to replicate.

Lima is better than any DL Iowa has. To think otherwise is pretty dense
