Yeah maybe enough kids got hurt last year where coach said "Go get the best guy we can get, Freshman, Grad Transfer or Sit out Transfer. It's never bad to have to many good players that can shoot the 3.
Maybe. Just don't see how they could get the kid to come play at ISU if they have Wiggingon, Babb, Shayok and THT. But I guess it never hurts to inquire.
Obviously I'm not the only one that thinks the same. Look at his in-home visit list already! He'll get to name his place.
I think people underestimate how much Prohm was frustrated by not being able to play small last year. The team lacked lineup versatility. The team also lacked shooting. Think of how often we played "small" in Prohm's first two seasons in Ames.
Let's say you add Mooney. You now have Shayok, Weiler-Babb, Talley, THT, and maybe Mooney who could play as a small ball 4. Look at what Nova did with a four guard lineup. Look at what Kansas did with a four guard lineup. This idea that Wigginton, NWB, Shayok, and THT have all the guard spots locked up doesn't make sense to me. You need guards. Having 6 guards for 4 positions is not a problem.

Nice. After watching the excellent guard play of the small-ball teams advance in the tournament he’d be a welcome addition. Another solid all-around guard never hurts.
That’s kind of the way I’m leaning. You can’t plan too far into the future in college hoops nowadays.
Take the best available player who is ready to commit. Winning next year trumps winning in 2020, IMO.
I'd argue 6 for 4 is a problem. You add a Mooney then that bumps someone who has been in the rotation. Chemistry is important to a team.
NWB and Shayok are seniors, Lindell and Lard potential all conference players and THT 35 top recruit won't be losing minutes. I doubt Young 2 year starter, Lewis and Griffin top 100 recruits, and Talley senior would be happy not seeing the floor for player they don't know brought in during the summer.
I am fine with the staff looking at all players including grad transfers but, it isn't as simple as just adding a potential shooter.
Team dynamics are important. But our backcourt wasn’t nearly good enough last year. Avoiding upsetting guys by depending solely on their improvement seems risky given they’ll be gone after next year anyways.
Imo it’s as simple as adding a player better than what we have. If a guy is good enough to play major minutes and not be completely redundant, you take him,
Depending on the grad transfer, we have a lot of minutes available. Less for Wigginton and NWB. Shayok was a 20 minute/gm guy at UVA. Lewis has a ways to go and THT is a freshman.

I guess I didn't know anyone was ever 'guaranteed' certain minutes. And like others have said, the competition can only make your team stronger if a player is "all in" for the right reasons. Any player worth their salt should welcome competition and not fear ANYONE, transfer or otherwise, if they are confident in their game. (Having said that, most of you naysayers will probably get your wish as Mooney will be recruited to a team who does actually guarantee more time, big holes to fill...like Hurley at UCONN.)
No wway. Mooney will end up on a big 12 team and hit 20 3's against us at some point next year.
The PITT transfers have gotten their release. ISU has been in contact with Carr and recruited Stewart previously.
@coreyevans_10 Pittsburgh does remain in the picture for freshman guard Marcus Carr, sources tell Rivals, as he has received his release to transfer. Could return to the ACC program, though Minnesota, Marquette, Gonzaga, UConn & handful of others pursue

This should be the goal 100% of the time. It's not like Bill Self, etc stop taking talented kids.
Agree, although if player X adds 5 wins to next year’s roster and player Y adds 10 to the following year’s roster, which would you go with? I’d go with the former, but that became I view next year as a local peak year.
Always focus on next year and not the year after. If you get a stud grad transfer it makes next year better and then you just have to find another grad transfer guard the next year
