***Big 10 Thread***

I can’t really take KenPom seriously evaluating the Big Ten when they’ve had Iowa 15-40 spots above ISU all season. I think we have at least 4 or 5 wins better than their best win.

Iowa State is 3-6 against the RPI top 50 and Iowa is 0-7....

Looking/using one metric is really dumb.

It may be a good gambling tool, but the people who say it "rates how you play"...that's a horrible way to rate the quality of play. To me it has always seemed like a way to minimize winning as an important thing. Winning is 80% of rating the way you play. Schedule is the other 19.9% Whatever KenPom is prioritizing is .1%.

Not all Season. There was a time when ISU was 10 or so spots ahead of Iowa. Ken Pom makes adjustments for schedule strength. And I think you will see ISU finish ahead of Iowa on Ken Pom when all is said and done

But it isn't telling you how good their season has been based on wins and losses- Ken Pom is trying to tell you how that team would play today vs any given opponent taking how they have performed offensively and defensively throughout the season. ISU has been wildly inconsistent obviously. And some of their downs have been really down which really took their offensive and defensive efficiencies down. Basically since after the UNI win. That is why I think you have to use several things when picking NCAA tournament teams. Look at how they have played (Ken Pom, BPI etc) and also look at who they have beaten. But don't just use one thing or the other because the RPI can be gamed pretty easily and it also fails teams that are really good but play in a bad conference and overvalues ok teams in really good conferences.

Overhead a female hawk fan at the HS game I was at last night. She was telling people that the hawks beat MSU yesterday. Game was an early tip off. I looked at my phone and couldn't find anything. Think she was watching a replay, about right for a hawk.

I don't think RPI is perfect and it shouldn't be the be all end all for the committee but honestly, it has been a pretty solid metric for them. I like the fact that it penalizes team for scheduling a bunch of dog **** OOC games and it also realizes that not all conferences are created equally.. It has also helped upper tier mid majors who aren't afraid to go on the road against a really tough opponent. Teams aren't necessarily "gaming" the RPI, they are simply smarter with their schedule because they know that sub 300 games do nothing for you.

Haha...My dad did something similar a few years ago when the BTN was showing a replay of Iowa Wrestling beating PSU from the year before. He went to the coffee shop the next morning telling everyone how Iowa beat PSU and everybody told him they didn't think Iowa wrestled last night. He then found out it was a replay. Hilarious.

Exactly. That’s why it’s a horrific measure to consider for tourney selection which is what college hoops fans care about and talk about 99% of the time.

Are they ranked #5? She mentioned that I remember.

Bahahahaahaha

BCClone tries to rip on Iowa fans only to realize he is the dumbass and then tries to cover himself by conveniently remembering the person mentioned MSU being ranked #5.

That ACT score realization hurt you, huh? No, this lady was talking men's basketball because her FIL and a couple others there were agreeing that it was big to knock off that highly of a ranked team. If MSU women are highly ranked then, sure, it was the women.

Have you applied for a greeter job at Walmart, it may get you out of mom's basement and help you meet people.
