Dantonio going down....Dantonio basically has them as a top 15 school already, so Saban definitely could have.
Top 15? Last year they sucked but overall I'd say top 15 last 5 years or so....can he sustain it? I'd say no...

So 1 team being "down"and him being a good coach is taking advantage? LOLI'd say top 25. He took advantage of a down Michigan. Still not a better program than Michigan despite their recent success.
Pretty unrealistic goal IMO....is that an attainable goal for ISU?Obviously. I'm just still in shock that no coach could ever make Iowa into a top 10 program

How exactly do you define a top 10 program by the way? What's the time frame for sustained excellence?
So he turned them into a top 15 program? Got it.Dantonio going down....

I can agree with that but like I said.....a ESTABLISHED Nick Saban ain't coming to an ISU or Iowa. Just not happening....There's a huge difference in making it a goal and saying it is impossible for it to ever happen. Do I think ISU will ever be a top 10 program in my lifetime? No. Do I think ISU would be a top 10 program if Nick Saban somehow came to Ames? Absolutely
Last 5 years sure....by that standard Ferentz had a top 15 program from 2001-2005.So he turned them into a top 15 program? Got it.
Historically better? Each team has a final four but you have to go back 40 years for the most recent one. Iowa State has had an equal to better basketball program going back to the mid 80's. Hasn't been that close since the late 90's.

Now.....could Campbell be the next Nick Saben? Who knows.....the trouble is even if he is....he won't have the established Nick Saben cache that could overcome the inherent recruiting hurdles that a state like Iowa entails.
Just don't see either school being a top 10 program given all the limitations in recruiting and $$$ that the "blue bloods" of college football enjoy.
Last 5 years sure....by that standard Ferentz had a top ten program from 2001-2005.
Lets see if he can sustain that....I don't think he will.
Just enough to get Kirk new contacts.Last 5 years sure....by that standard Ferentz had a top ten program from 2001-2005.

Yes, Iowa is still historically better, but most of that is ancient history, but still history nonetheless.
Iowa has had 25 NCAA appearances, 8 conference championships, 2 conference tournament championships, 8 Sweet 16s, 3 Final Fours and 1 Runner Up
ISU has had 19 NCAA appearances, 6 conference championships, 5 conference tournament championships, 5 Sweet 16s, and 1 Final Four
How do you only have 2 conference tournament championships in the dumpy Big 10?
They didn't even have a conference tournament until 1998, but only having two isn't anything to brag about for sure.
How does ISU only have 1 final four berth that came in 1944 and still call itself a basketball school?
Have to admit....that was horrible.Blarge
