Sorry, I voted yes because I thought it was a serious question. I guess he has a few game to right the ship, but not seeing that happening based on the last few games. The Big10 is pretty much garbage beyond 3-4 teams, and they are still getting kicked every night.

If Cook does transfer, Weiskamp coming in won't matter.
From the sounds of it, Weiskamp was going to Iowa unless they completely dropped the basketball program. The head coach is irrelevant to the decision. Would Cook be more likely to stay if Fran gets fired or if Fran is back next year?

As an Iowa State fan, the answer is “no”. I hope he stays forever. As an Iowan though, yes, he should be fired. He is an embarrassment to the state.

I really do feel sorry for their players. He is a bully with a victim’s mentality. An absolutely terrible combination, and it rubs off on them (as evidenced by the JBo tweet a while back). As part of his job, he should also be teaching them life lessons, and he’s teaching them all the wrong ones.

Let him get his own guys and system in there before making such rash decisions.

Probably just needs more depth and in-state players.

I know this is maybe comparing apples to oranges, but...

-Paul Rhoads was here 7 years, and only made 3 bowls, and was fired..
-Fran has been at Iowa for 8 years, has only 3 NCAA Tourney appearances (and that's if you include the play-in game fiasco)

It does boil down to expectations though. Does Iowa basketball have lower expectations than one of the worst P5 football programs? Making a bowl game is easier than going to the Dance, but still...

Wow can we all agree to give Barta a lifetime contract?
He snuck in a contract extension for Mad Fran back in November and didn't announce it.

According to an extension signed by McCaffery, Iowa athletics director Gary Barta and University of Iowa President Bruce Harreld on Nov. 29, 2017, the school would owe McCaffery $10.2 million if it fired him before July 1, 2018. That number falls to $9 million due McCaffery if he is fired before July 1, 2019, and decreases annually through the 2023-24 season. McCaffery’s recent contract was obtained by Land of 10 via state open-records laws.

Contract appears to have been signed & finalized on Nov, 29th. That is after the Cayman Islands and the blowout road loss to VT. Nice.

Being a conspiracy theorist, I wondered if Hawk media overinflated expectations to put pressure on Fran when he didn’t meet them. Now I think it may have been Fran wanting to squeeze that contract out of Barta before they hit conference play. Well played, Madman.
