Kempt

The playcalling was eerily similar to the Texas game on offense. If you only give up 20 points to WVU, you should be able to score more than 21 to win. It was abysmal playcalling. I thought Campbell let Messingham come back to call a game again.

Don't worry, the coaches are telling people that Kempt acted alone!

Yeah, the first seemingly designed run on, what, a 3rd and 4? That was just dumb. Asking him to do it again later in the game in critical spots was inexcusable.

I'm trusting that Lanning isn't 100 percent, but I'd rather throw it in short yardage than run Kempt in any scenario.

3rd and 7 I think! I mean I get trying to sneak him out there on 3rd and 3 or something but 7! WVU guys can come from 20 yards of depth and stop that. It was ridiculous.

Let it go. Your little pillow fight earlier is no reason to say that. Somewill who doesn't know the backstory, will believe you and run with it.

Anyone here who thinks Kempt was the problem in any way simply does not know what they are talking about. This 5 conference game stretch had been the best by any cyclone qb ever, without question. To even bring his play up as an area of lack is stupid, plain and simple.

QB alone? No it hasn't. The offense has been feckless since OU and even then, he was throwing it out to guys and they were outrunning everyone. As I said, he's been fine and he's what you expect, really out of any backup in our situation, but to act as if he's the reason for this teams success is disingenuous. Against ok-at-best defenses, we have put up 24 and 16 offensive points. 14 against the good defense and were shut out in the second half.

Like I've said, Kempt doesn't make much in the way of mistakes and he's generally fine, but acting like he's been the propeller for the last month isn't factually accurate. He hasn't had a ton of help, especially today, so failures are hardly on him as well. It's much more an Oline and, today, the WRs. He's just kind of Sam Richardson out there.

Our offensive line is a SERIOUS issue right now. They couldn't block their way out of a wet paper bag. Every single run Montgomery was breaking tackles at the line of scrimmage and fighting for any yardage he got.

I agree this offensive line is a work in progress........

And we won 4 out of 5. If he was that bad, we’d have lost 3 or 4.

Frankly, he was probably better today than we think.
You and Pride are nuts. How the do you think you’ve refuted the statement of “Kempt limits the offense and is one cause for the struggles” with our record? Is our run game good too because we won 4 or 5? You two are worse than box score watchers and potentially the most insecure fans on CF.

I never tried to refute that statement. We are limited at quarterback. We were limited before Oklahoma at quarterback and we are limited after Oklahoma at quarterback.

I just don't think we are as limited as you think. And I don't think one loss negates what the team did in October. I think some of you think that it was all a fluke and the real team showed up yesterday.

Yep...and this isn't me calling for Kempt's head....just me saying let's leave his rushing game in the locker room. : )

Love KK. And it's funny he can't run fast enough to actually slide... without KK we would be in a different position and most likely not better.

Special season with so many kids playing above themselves. Still so much to play for.

This game is on the O-line not Kempt. They got abused all day. We win this game easily with good blocking. Drops from receivers were bountiful as well. Poor tackling and angles. Just all around a terrible half of football followed up with a half of extreme pressing to get back into position to win. Even with all that we still had our opportunities. Gotta play perfect football if you want to be the big dog on campus.

We need to cut each other some slack. Last month was a great run. It could be that we saw the "real team" yesterday.

But overall the Cyclone faithful have been pretty level headed given the team pissed away a chance for a conference championship. Driver's seat to outside looking in

Ha :)

Or it could be that the team wasn't as good as they looked in October nor as bad as you think yesterday.

I think the problem I have with the fans is that while it was fun to think about winning out, only an idiot would actually think that we would win out. So acting like yesterday was a big surprise and the end of all that is good is pretty ******* stupid.

But, much like every single basketball meltdown, the fact that fans are freaking out just proves we have a good football team.

Kent's arm strength didn't affect the pass to Ryen. He just short armed it, and didn't put enough on it. A lot of QB's need to learn the art of putting air under the throw. Put the ball out in front of a fast receiver with and step on the defender, and let the receiver adjust to the ball.

I feel calm when KK drops back to throw, it's a good feeling.

We're not seriously going to throw Kyle Kempt under the bus now after he barely lost one game after winning 4 in a row and beating 2 top 5 teams, are we?

I thought Cyclone fans were better than that? I still feel very confident with him out there, as long as he doesn't decide to run unless he has miles of open green grass ahead of him.

I still didn't like Manning's attack yesterday at all. We seemed to abandon the deep passing game for some unknown reason. And when we did do it, we threw it to Ryen instead of one of our three 6'5"+ WRs. And we used the horizontal passing game WAY too much.

What was different? Pissed away a chance at a CC? Lol. We’re not overall talented enough to piss away a conference championship.

People get caught up in box score watching and/or have not been paying attention. Yesterday we saw the same team as the previous 4, we just lost. That’s what happens when you have a small margin for error due to poor run blocking and limited QB play. A few different bounces/whistles/etc and it’s a win. It’s a credit to this staff that we normally get those things to go our way often enough to win, but it’s not a different team when they don’t.

Is saying Kempt limits the offense and wasn’t the reason why we went 4-0 last month really throwing him under the bus?

WVU isn’t that good, so of course there were opportunities. But it’s fair to say OL and QB are our most limiting units. There are reasons why this staff was starting Park and didn’t have Kempt on scholarship. Acknowledging those reasons isn’t throwing Kempt under the bus, nor is it taking away how admirably he’s filled in as a walkon.

Completion percentage 67%. TD to INT ratio of 10/3. All of this in five games. That's solid enough for me.

Project his stats over a 12 game schedule and it would put him at 2700 yards passing with 24 TDs and 7 INTs. Not Heisman material, but that would put him in the ISU QB Hall of Fame. Barring injury, he's our guy for the rest of the year. He's better than 80% of the guys who have played the position for us in the 40 years I have been watching.

The offense hasn't been good since Oklahoma. This isn't debatable at all. This isn't a mad eup problem. By no measure has it been good in even one of those games.
