Kempt

We got tunnel vision trying to go downfield again. We could have been dumping underneath the entire second half just like the Texas game. The OC needs to stay out of that mode.

If our run blocking this year was even just slightly above average, Montgomery would be over 1100 yards right now
I would be happy if the improved to be below average. They are really bad, the other teams know it, and that kills what we can do.

Kempt has been fantastic. Everything that we could reasonably expect and actually quite a bit more.

We can beat anyone with him as a starter, but it requires that every guy out there executes at a high level. We did that in the second half for the most part, but just dug too big of hole.

20 points being too big of a hole is kind of the issue isn't it? A quick look at the West Virginia schedule doesn't show they are a stone wall on defense.

We should be concerned and it might be a good idea to lower expectations a bit

He hasn’t been fantastic, but he’s been what you’d expect and more from a walkon.

We can beat anyone in spite of his limitations (and the Oline’s), but it takes nearly perfection from the defense, WR, and staff. That’s not really saying much about his play, but credit this staff and the defense.

How many walk on’s have you seen that came off the bench to go 4-1, including wins over two top five teams? I’m not saying he looks like Dan Marino, but he’s far exceeded the expectations of absolutely anyone who understands football.

How many starting QBs are playing in a game in which they have mismatch at WR and the other teams score 34 points in 12 quarters? We should be winning those games even Kempts weak arm

Like I said, Kempt has played better than expected for a walkon, but not fantastically. One is a relative metric, the other global. Larson filled in well for a walkon

He has exceeded expectations, but the record stat is deceiving. 3 of those games were won by the defense.

I stand by every sentence.

And we won 4 out of 5. If he was that bad, we’d have lost 3 or 4.

Frankly, he was probably better today than we think.

For what it's worth Campbell was fairly complimentary of him after the game on the part of the post game I heard. He certainly did not throw him under the bus.

I don't think anyone should be harping on Kempt. And again, that wasn't my intent.

I'm happy with Kempt and the job he's done. I just think his running game is something opposing D's are a lot more excited about than Iowa State fans. As such we need to have a hell of a lot better option for the last 3...hopefully 5 games.

That's on the coaches.

Multiple backs, some type of direct snap using Warren as an option QB...I don't know. BUT if the new master plan involves the words "Let's do X and let Kempt see what he can do with his feet" CMC needs to pull out a tack hammer. :)
