Some comments from Sage

This would be fantastic. I was hoping the next big project was to renovate and add on to the press box. That's the only thing IMO that is holding Jack Trice Stadium back from having that big time stadium feel to it

The south end zone project definitely helped with the visual appearance but yeah the press box needs to be addressed. The tricky part with the press box is that they would most likely have a level of indoor/outdoor suites, so it's one of those additions that will need to wait until the demand is there for those suites to be sold out. The way things are going this may be realistic in the next couple of years.

So the newly built facilities attached to the indoor complex would move to this new structure? I'm confused what football facilities aren't already right there unless you are talking about dorms, tutoring, dining?

That's what I am confused about too. We literally just built the new football offices and now they want to move the offices again?

Where do I write my too small of check to help make this happen?

Our AD budget is a lot more than what it was 10 years ago. I would hope we could find most, if not all of that, going to the best revenue generating investment- football staff salaries.

I do think outsiders underestimate the good college level talent we have, particularly on offense. Similar to ISU basketball in 13-14 not having NBA guys, but having a talent advantage. We’re really only a few maulers on the OLine away from having sufficient talent on every unit and being a top-5 team. Add KO and Co to this team and DM is running for 150+/game. Our 2nd biggest weakness was LB being so new and learning on the job, but they’ve been fast learners.

I would guess the pile of cash is referring to donors ready to pull the trigger more than actual cash reserves. My question is does he know of specific donor(s) and dollar amount(s) or simply based on current success and precedent he thinks it's coming.

As far as I can tell, the only "pile of cash" the AD has at this point is a $12MM reserve fund. Maybe they have large donations in the pipeline?

On the other hand, who's to say how well connected Sage is with ISU finances. It might have just been an assumption.
Sage was running around with Pollard all week at the Big 12 tourney, and I'm sure that's not the only time he has spent with him.

He may not have been spot on, but I doubt he's just spewing a bunch of crap too without having a decent idea of what could happen.

Every Tuesday the local station talks to Sage, usually about the NFL but yesterday the talk was about ISU. He talks about Campbell and money at about the 12:00 mark

At the top of this page is the recording.

The one thing that I have told people that I think Sage might be referring too about a "pile of cash" is there are some mighty big boosters that would step up to the plate to keep a good football coach.

We haven't ever had the need to pay a legit coach like Campbell appears to be shaping up into. We could win 9 or 12 games this year and we wouldn't be playing the Big 12 North and the lesser teams in the Big 12 South. The boosters haven't ever had the opportunity to step up and pay to keep a good football coach that can win at Iowa State.

So I kind of wonder/think Sage might just be talking about that. We have rich boosters who have never been tasked with keeping a good coach and since we have been viewed as a graveyard by coaches even offering to hire a coach at a premium wouldn't happen. So we have this untapped potential or pile of cash as Sage puts it. Just my 2 cents.

No idea, but a lot of places now have student athlete performance centers. That integrated into a nice NEZ with some AD offices on the lower level and a top row of suites/indoor stadium facilities would be big time.

It wouldn’t hurt to see if there’s a way to get creative as a university in investing in ISU football. Get the stadium enhancements done while knocking out other university projects. Go old school for the next campus project by building University offices/lecture rooms/dorms into a new press box/suite structure (or even commercial)

Said that the BIGXII isn’t that tough of a conference and there’s phony teams like Taco-tech. Said Campbell recognizes this and is bringing a blue collar smash your opponent, disciplined football mentality to the BIGXII.

I can agree with this to an extent. Plenty of athleticism in the conference but the uptempo stuff can get screwed up by a team that makes them earn the yards and is relentlessly physical. ISU seems to also take plenty of time between offensive plays which puts the rhythm control on their side.

I watched a bit of OU/TT Saturday night and Tech certainly seemed to have much more freedom with the football than the previous week.

I love the money talk, even if it's not 100% accurate, I'm sure Pollard doesn't appreciate it.
This is dumb. Sage and JP talk frequently- he can say what he wants w/o JP's approval. In this case, he is not wrong even if much of this is far off and still speculative

The next project is the new performance center which may or may not include FB offices. If it does, the offices in the new Berg building are likely converted into the players lounge. The talk had been putting this performance center in the parking lot between the Berg and the Jacobson Bldg. Next is the demolition of the Olsen Bldg which a new building is then built on that spot several stories high possibly-No idea how tall tho. I have heard that AD offices move into that new bldg from the Jake and the Jake is turned into a Hall of Fame and gathering area with suites. I have mentioned how I would like to see it terraced back to match the new NEZ hillsides (which will continue to exist). If a NEZ features seating, it would be similar to the SEZ balcony but slightly fewer seats due to the angle of the NEZ being more narrow than the SEZ was. If seating was added, you are around 66,000 capacity or so.

New press tower is low on the list even though it would be the cherry on the sundae
