Injuries, frustration huddle with Hawkeyes

Wow, it's official:

Before you assume the fetal position and go to your happy place, the Hawkeyes' top three receivers — Andy Brodell (lower back soreness), Tony Moeaki (broken foot) and Trey Stross (hamstring) — sat out with injuries.

Confirmation of what Jon Miller reported. Despite being an All-American according to Iowa fans, DJK is not even the 3rd best receiver on his own team.

Eh, we all knew that Brodell and Moeaki were the best returning receivers last year, and should be this year. For Stross, it's up for debate. DJK is now a Sophomore while Moeaki and Brodell are Seniors.

I don't mean to pile on, because I think the Hawks will be OK this year, but the article seems to be written a bit sarcastically.

I have to admit I found the "sad trombone" part kinda funny, and thought it was very funny that the writer made sure he emphasized that the 2nd most cheered for play was a Ryan Donahue punt. Exciting stuff.

Injuries like this, this early is not good for hawk fans. It will only be a few more weeks and hawk fans will realize what everyone on this board already knew- Iowa stinks.:arghh:

I just have a gut feeling that Iowa is going to stink up the joint this fall. I mean like early Ferentz years stinking. I could be wrong, and time will tell. I just think both talent and the game have passed KF (HPSE) by.

I really don't understand the offensive line struggles they are having right now. I thought Ferentz was supposed to be a miracle worker. I'm pretty sure ISU will have a much better line this year than Iowa.

I don't agree with this. The game has not passed Kirk by, "the game" has passed his coordinators by and FAST. Kirk is a GREAT coach and would be a true loss for UI. However, his assistants need to go!
And I know all of you are going to get all over me for saying this, but Iowa will never have a better coach then Kirk (not even with their payroll). He stays even through all the rough patches that may come, but they will not buy him out. Barta, if he is still there, will however start telling him that his game plan needs to change and thus you will start seeing some of this coaches fall (O'Keefe and Parker).

O'Keefe and Parker report directly to Ferentz. He has had the chance to fire them for the better part of 3 years now. If Ferentz can't pull the trigger on poor performing assistants than that reflects on how "GREAT" a coach he is. Hiring and firing assistants is a big part of the job.

I'll agree with you on that. Hey Iowa, Kirk is the best coach you will ever have! Don't fire him. Ever. Keep paying him.

I have this same feeling. I think ISU will win in Iowa City this year, and I think Iowa is going to have some bad losses. I predict that ISU and Iowa have pretty similar records at the end of the year with neither one going to a bowl game.

Iowa wins 7 games this year and goes to the Insight bowl. They have never been there before so the fans will travel well. Then things will be fine.

I don't buy things are as bad as they seem. Yes they will not be a 10 win team, but without Mich and OSU on the schedule 7 wins is very probable for them. I almost wish we had them at the end of the season so our QB situtation was more stable.

Their defense will be very tough and there offense will probably be bad. It will be OK if when they get their players healed up. (if)

Excuse my ignorance, but I hate Iowa so much that the only info I get about them is on this board... WHO is DJK? And why is he significant to anything?

Iowa freshman quarterback Tom Donatell (13) pulls down freshman defensive back William Lowe (10) during a scrimmage Saturday at Iowa Hawkeyes Kids 'Day at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City.

At least Kirk knows that his freshman QB can tackle. Who needs Bernstine after all.

Iowa's leading receiver last season. Highly touted recruit out of Ohio. (Sophomore).

I'm not too concerned about the injuries. According to yesterday's practice photos Brodell, Ballard, Bulaga, Bernstine, Tarp and Greene were all back on the field in full pads - no red jerseys either.

Stross and Moeaki will hopefully be back for Florida Int'l - at the very latest they'll be back for ISU.

The offensive struggles worry me, but this happens at every open practice/spring game I've been to and they always look better when the actual season rolls around. No matter how bad the offense is, this defense will keep them in EVERY game. I've said it before, this will be one of the best front 7s Iowa's ever had.
