Remaining 2 open scholarships

I tried to make the point earlier that there are multiple possibilities on guys transferring rather than focusing in on one player. Simple fact is coaches recruit the best recruits they can and not one of them come to sit on the bench. When you have a roster full of talent top to bottom there are going to be position battles and minutes are limited.

Fact is we have three guys that played last year, and a guy that was hampered by injuries. Add to that a red shirt, two preps and three grad transfers. No one really knows for certain who's going to fit and who's going to fail. I absolutely agree it's unfair to single players out as transfer targets but it's foolish to think someone won't leave in the spring.

I also don't want you or anyone else to speculate So please do not do it! At this level athlete's egos are often fragile so it does the Cyclones no good to read this "stuff".

Goodness, did I need to write "I am being sarcastic"? Context matters, people. Go back and read my post.

Taking 5 players in a class just bunches up the scholarships and gives you the same problem we have 2017, unless one of the players walks on. I'd take all three if one is a walkon.

I'd be curious to see if Conditt would redshirt.

Fred saw Kane inbound the ball and he knew he had the secret weapon he needed when we play EIU.

Just to give you a little insight. I corresponded with Javian Fleming via Twitter message. Unlikely he would come to Ames, but wouldn't rule it out. He has a upcoming visit to Georgetown. Also, he told me that Tyler Harris and him text on a regular basis and that a package deal somewhere would be "ideal" he said. My best guess is that Conditt and THT would be the safe bets with those last two scholarships.

I would still love to have Harris.

But if that is how he feels, and Conditt and THT are going to fill that class out otherwise, I think we are going to be fine the next couple of seasons.

Wiggi will be around for at least some time, Halliburton can lean from combo to PG, and, if there is one position that Prohm can recruit and coach, it is PG. I am sure another good JUCO like Jackson is around or there will be somebody with a good pedigree wanting to follow in the Canaan, Payne, Morris, and Wigginton lineage soon enough.

I'm pretty sure Matt Thomas and Naz Long will transfer.

FFS, why do we keep speculating who could transfer? Can we just stop it already? We've got guys that chose to come to ISU and represent the university. I realize players transfer out all the time, but no good comes from singling out players.

I understand why people post this but don't agree with it. Sure, I wanted to be at ISU and went to ISU but does that mean I'm good enough at Basketball to be on scholarship for the MBB program? No. Was SDW, Simeon Carter, Ray Kasongo etc. good enough to be on the team? Probably not. Did they want to be at ISU? Probably. I just don't see why it is so wrong to speculate who could leave the program after this year (and I guarantee someone will) on a fan site dedicated to discussing ISU athletics past, present, and future.

This isn't meant to be a direct attack at you, just this same post that comes up every time we have a scholarship crunch...

Thanks. No attack taken.

There are always going to be better and worse players, and everyone (players included) knows who they are. I'm sure players read social media, or have friends or family that do and let them know about it. I assume that's only natural.

I would hate to be that guy that feels like he had a great off-season, busted his ass to work on his shot/speed/defense and is now ready to show the fans that they are in good hands only to discover that he's been anointed as the most likely person to transfer. His possible or probable departure would not be "that big of a deal".

Dealing with criticism from a poor performance is one thing, but most of these guys being talked about haven't had a legitimate opportunity to prove themselves.

I'd hope that most of these guys are used to how message boards go and let this stuff roll off them, but it's disingenuous to think that it doesn't affect some portion of 18-22 year olds that are being talked about.

Seems like Illinois is feeling pretty confident about getting Conditt. One of their coaches has a track record of developing big men. I don't think we have that rep in our coaching staff.

Conditt just followed me on Twitter, and NO ONE follows me on Twitter. I'm taking that as a good sign, or bad judgement on his part.
