This is my point. You don't move a starter around if he's
A. That good at his position
Or
B. The position you move him to is in good shape.
Or it could be that Epenesa is forcing his way on to the field and the most logical way to maximize his snaps is to move someone that plays the same position. Iowa doesnt typically get players like AJ.
Nelson is 285, not 260. Bazata is a 3 year starter, he is gonna be good his Sr year. I can kind of understand why you are skeptical of Latimore, but trust me, he will be good. He got snaps last year as a true FR when Iowa had Jeleel, Bazata, and. 5th year Sr Faith E. You don't strip a kids RS first game is he season if he doesn't have a lot of talent.
I'm not talking about Nelson being 260. I am talking about the other backup listed.
I don't think Iowa will be bad on the interior DL but its quite clear that depth could be a problem.
ISU fans don't get it. They aren't used to having actual players who are developed and ready to go on the DL. AJ is forcing this because he is that good.
I sound like a broken record, but Iowa DL is gonna be good, and the front 7 is gonna be really good.
Iowa has more depth than normal. Last year we had Hesse and Matt Nelson at DE and the. ????? Anthony Nelson then played and played at a high level. Now we have 3 top notch DE with AJ, Nelson and Hesse. Also hearing Brinks and Gholston are pushing for playing time as well at DE. The DT it seems to be 3 deep with Bazata, Latimore and Nelson. We are deeper already than we are most years at this time along the DL
M Nelson, A Nelson, Hesse, Bazata, Lattimore and Epenesa is a pretty damn good starting point. 4 of those have started on the DL in the past and another is a 5* recruit. The 6th was good enough to play on the DL as a true freshmen that had 6 legit DL already on it (Nelson, Nelson, Hesse, Bazata, Jaleel, Ekakitie).
You have several posts on this forum being optimistic about the ISU d line but cant see the strength up front for Iowa.
You used to be an objective, solid poster. What happened?
Still not sure why you burn a redshirt to play Lattimore for him to get one tackle on the season. Total Rhoads move.

Starting/playing on the DL at Iowa takes a bit more talent than doing the same at ISU.

How am I not being objective? The two deep for interior DL is Bazata (good player), Lattimore (promising but unproven), Reiff (260lb) and M Nelson who was converted partially because of a lack of depth. It takes more than 2 interior linemen to be good on the interior, sorry.
They look to be in good shape at DE. I did not dispute that.
@breck53 please explain how this is a good comeback. Posters weren't excited when he made the switch and I haven't seen too much excitement around it now as we get close to the season starting.
We took a starter at DE, a position you have admitted we are in good shape at, and moved him inside to DT where he is not listed as a starter.
He was good enough to start at DE but not at DT and you dont think we are strong inside?

It does make sense. You typically don't move a starter to a different position unless that position he is moving to lacks depth.
DE and DT are two completely different positions.
Again, he was a starter at a position you are saying is good for Iowa.
He moves to a position that you said Iowa is lacking and he isnt a starter.
Aside from mesaclone, who is a ******* troll, I saw a bunch of skepticism and "he's a good athlete" "Campbell getting his best players on the field" comments. I wouldn't call that thread having much optimism. You got anything else?
