OK - who wins the game on Sept. 9th ?

Fine. I guess the other player is better. But at one thing. You can't be so dense that you don't se what I'm saying. I stand by what I said earlier in this thread which I think says it better. ISU will grow this year. By the time the DL gels at the end of the year we'd a 7 point neutral favorite against those guys out east. Iowa is holding onto their superiority as tightly as they can, and 50 runs this September will be the only way they can keep it going for one more year.
Don't you know that only iowa gets better as the year goes on?

LOL, Iowa State loses FCS teams every season.

Iowa has never lost to UNI.

Honest question- does anyone have tape of Lanning playing MLB in high school? Having a hard time finding some.

Both Iowa and ISU are coming off home losses to an FCS team.

Ask Nebraska, I know they wanted him bad as an LB.

Do you honestly think I would make a bet with an anonymous message board troll? No.

If Fant has more catches/yards than Chase, that won't surprise me. ISU has way more mouths to feed for receptions than Iowa. I don't necessarily think that means Fant>Allen and I don't see how you can justify calling Fant better right now. There literally is no proof.

I didn't expect an actual bet.

This is surprising, you post what you think, so I know you are thinking this is true. Yet how can you say there is no proof. The fact the Hawks didn't RS Fant, shows how much talent he has at a school known for TE talent, and who RS 95% of its TE. He also got lots of playing time and Hawks fans actually saw what he can do. Sure 9 catches isn't much, but the last true FR TE at Iowa to play was Tony Moeaki and he had 8 catches is FR year.

Allen has literally don't nothing, it is all fans hopes on this. I didn't expect anything out of Fant last year before I saw him play a snap. Now that I have I at least know what we have in this kid. You have no clue on Allen.

Why was iowa's passing game pathetic? They had the country's best OL and an NFL QB? And apparently they had the second coming of Dallas Clark as as second string TE.

How could their passing game be so pathetic?

Allen should have it easy...he plays in the no defense league...remember?

The pass pro at Iowa the last two years has been terrible. 2 years ago with good WR we could pass the ball. We passed the ball just fine last year until Vandeberg and Kittle went down. Heck you saw it vs ISU, Vandeberg killed you guys last year.

At least you admit Iowa TE > ISU TE, so that is good.

Not many true Fr TE ever get to the field at Iowa. Fant did, and Fant was getting some snaps before Kittle went down to injury. Iowa's passing game was pathetic or Fant would have had even more catches.

If you wanna make a side bet, I will. Fant > Allen this year. Let me explain why this is a horrible bet for you to make on Allen.

1) Even if talented he is still seeing the field for the first time vs FBS talent
2) You don't even know how CMC will even use his TE
3) Fant is clearly Iowa's #1 TE now and that alone carries with it a bunch of opportunities, being on the field a ton and a lot of pass catching opportunities.

I will make this bet, it is a no brainer for me, on the other hand you might wanna think long and hard about it.
How are you going to determine who is better? hok fans have already displayed we can't use stats because the big 12 is a no defense league

This is true. Iowa is 7-1 in November the last two years. Iowa hasn't done well in Jan lately that is for sure. Not sure how that could be conditioning as it is nearly a full month after the season.

ISU was better in Nov last year as well. Heck without Nov last year are ISU fans even excited about this year.

Catches and yard is the easy one. It is more difficult for ISU fans to quantify what a good blocking TE brings to the table as they have never had one. I think It will be pretty clear Fant is better, but we will see I guess.

Yes. This was your reaction when I told you Wadley was better than Warren going into last season, and look how that played out. Iowa always has very good corners and this year is no different just because they aren't multi-year starters.
Rugamba has some raw natural ability, I"ll grant you that. I wouldn't say at this point of his young career that you can straight up compare him with Peavy, maybe after a full season of starting, we'll see. And the other side of the field I wouldn't be so sure about. Iowa's secondary won't be a strength of the defense this season IMO

Hmmm...let's do some problem solving here.

Every year they're better at the end of the year.
Every year they play at least one B12 team at the start of the year and none at the end.
Every year they play no Big 10 teams at the start and only Big 10 teams at the end.

Several reasons.

1) ISU doesn't even use its TE. How many catches did ISU TE have last year?
2) Allen hasn't even played a snap
3) Fant showed last year that he can make plays
4) If you are looking at recruits pedigree, Iowa took Fant out of Nebraska and Nebraska really, really wanted Fant. That is just as good as Michigan needing a fallback TE so they offered Allen.
I can't remember a scholarship TE that made our 2-deep since Bibbs. I can't remember the reasons, probably some combo of attrition/failed development that the Rhoads staff was renowned for.

Derp!

ISU was better at the end of last year. Beginning of the year ISU had to play a FCS school and a BigTen school and they sucked then. When ISU played Big12 schools they "improved"

See I can do that too, Derp!

Bad pass pro and poor WRs should help the TE as the QB should be dumping the ball.

How could iowa have the best OL in college have have bad pass pro? That's crazy.

Vandenburg has killed us every year. The most painful was two years ago when he picked on Cotton time and time and time again on 3rd down.

There is hardly any proof at all. If you think that burning a redshirt for 9 catches and 70 yards justifies him being better than Chase Allen then by all means go ahead.

If Chase Allen only catches 9 passes this year, I'll be disappointed. He was surely going to play as a true freshman before getting hit by a car and getting the mumps, which caused him to lose a bunch of weight.

I think Chase Allen and Dylan Soehner will help the ISU tight ends quite a bit this year.

Really there is nothing to take from iSu's first two games last year They were awful. The UNI game was the worst game I have ever seen iSu play. 9 penalties, 2 fumbles, an INT and we actually had a WR and RB run into each other. I'll take a page from the iowa fanbook and say UNI did not beat iSu last year...iSu beat iSu.

The staff was trying to figure out exactly what they had and they hadn't found it yet. The OL was reworked after iowa. Park was overcoming the mumps. Warren was pouting. Those first two games were ugly.

I understand hok fan not realizing iSu got better. hok fans are like most big tin fans and watch very little football outside of their own conference. Heck, most fans don't watch much football outside of their own conference.
