Iowa Football Recruiting

It doesn't take black and gold glasses to say Iowa's tailgating is better, it just takes eyes and half a brain.

Listen I can say ISU basketball atmosphere is better than Iowa's because it is. It is actually #ThoseFaninAmes that won't take off (what color are you again) glasses and acknowledge what everyone knows, that Iowa's tailgating is better.

Ok offer list, Fitz hasnt offered right in his back yard.

No Iowa or Wisky offers who both like to clean up in Chicagoland.

I was going to say suck a fat one earlier but didn't want to give it away. Kid has visited Wiscy, Arkansas and now THE Iowa State. Rumor on the pay board is he's impressed with ISU's up to date facilities, tailgating/fan support and wants to play in a league that plays defense. Sounds like it's down to a Big 12 or SEC school

So this has evolved to a tailgate thread, huh? I guess it was inevitable.

I've experienced both multiple times. Going to the bars doesn't count, morons.

Like death and taxes, all Iowa-ISU discussions go to tailgating. Or which is better, Iowa City or Ames. Or some combination of both.

Go Bielema!

It's pretty simple......

IC > Ames
ISU tailgating > Iowa tailgating

Most of my Iowa friends say "Iowa football is better than ISU football, but at least ISU has much better tailgating.". That's not much of a compliment obviously because I'd much rather have it the other way around, but there really isn't that much argument on the tailgating aspect.

I see he has a lot of non flagship programs on his list. Shaping up to be a barn burner between isu and ISU.

Is this why clone fans don't show up for the second half?

Part of it, yeah. The tailgating is SO good, and the product on the field usually hasn't been.

I took an Iowa friend of mine who has been to tons of Iowa home games, but never an ISU home game, to an ISU-Iowa game at Jack Trice several years ago, and he couldn't believe how awesome of a setting ISU has for tailgating.

As we walked down towards the stadium from up by CY Stephens and all you could see was this huge sea of people in front of you, he was amazed.

Now if we could make the intramural fields all paved parking lots, we could possibly have one of the best settings for tailgating in the entire country. And if the team could ever become a perennial bowl team, then it would be unbelievable. Everything is in place for something special. Just gotta start winning. Lots of room for expansion of stadium, and parking. Iowa's setup is already a total cluster.

Oh, and not to mention that more kids in the state of Iowa are going to ISU than Iowa, and we have a larger enrollment too. Everything is in place to just take off. Make it happen CMC!!!

If he's interested-in being drafted and playing in the NFL, he should probably avoid the Big 12 all together.

ISU's tailgating is really good but it's also really one note. If you like tailgating in big open parking lots, Ames does that very well. But it's pretty much all you get. ISU does have an advantage at how close the lot tailgating is to the stadium. But the great thing about IC is the variety. If you want big open lots, you've got it to the north and west of Historic Kinnick and at Finkbine Commuter Lot. But you also have tailgating in yards in University Heights which is a blast, small little residential/apartment parking lots, and all the vendor tents along Melrose. So many good times stumbling into hidden parties all over the place in yards and little apartment lots meeting new people. Great stuff.

Explain why it's better.

Ames is a one size fit all, you come and park in a huge parking lot, everything is the same, everything is open, there is no shade, no character, it is all just so cookie cutter. It reminds me of every chain restaurant ever. One size fits all, the menus is the same across all restaurants, the decor, everything the same, same, same.

Iowa City is unique, fun and interesting. You have to find pockets to tailgate in. You find someone who rents their yard, you tailgate on a golf course, you tailgate outside the stadium. The experience is intertwined with the neighborhood and community. Iowa city tailgating is like a local restaurant where every experience is different and local and personable and fun and part of a community/neighbor that is unique and different from every other city/chain restaurant.

In the Ames cookie cutter tailgating, the only difference in everyones experience is distance away from the stadium. It is like eating at Applebee’s, and proclaiming it the best restaurant in the land. I’ll take Iowa City’s unique, fun and interesting tailgating like a local restaurant vs the cookie cutter chain restaurant every day.

If Iowa city were a place to eat

Maybe that was a bit unfair to call Ames tailgating cookie cutter. After I thought about it more, it reminds me of a huge mess hall. Just cram em all into the same building (in Ames case parking lot) and slop some food on a trey.
