Iowa Football Recruiting

Weird list for a big time prospect. Thoughts on the kid you just signed?

I know you are trolling but the Brents kid shot up the rankings in the last Rivals update, up to #151 now nationally, IIRC.

It is thought that big time offers will start to come in for him this summer.

I gave my thoughts on Roberts yesterday.

How am I trolling? I said that is a weird list for a big time recruit which it is. Can you remind me your thoughts on Roberts, I honestly don't remember

Iowa has had quite a bit of luck getting solid players from PA and the Erie area.

Iowa's staff had him at camp over the weekend and liked him enough to offer, that is good enough for me.

It is hard to discredit Iowa's d-backs under Coach Parker although I am sure you will find a way.

Chizik and Rhoads played in the exact same Big12 North for 4 years. ISU added an additional conference game for the last 6 years and still have less conference wins in 10 years than Dan had in 7. Ouch. The difference is Dan had an average program. Chizik, Rhoads and CMC have had a completely ****** programs.

First off, it's WAY too early to judge Campbell. KF had, what, 2 wins his first year? And that was coming off of a fairly successful coach. He's done OK in IC. Second, I have total respect for what Mac did. He brought the program from terrible to respectable. But at the time, it was time for him to go. Like it or not, he was trending down. Recruiting was suffering and so was attendance. Maybe ISU fans were spoiled a little with going to bowls most years. But it is not the place of fans of other programs to tell someone else they should keep a coach. Iowa fired Tom Davis for continually going 1 win and done in the NCAA tourney. Turns out that wasn't a great decision, but they wanted something more and were willing to take the risk with a new coach. ISU did the same with McCarney. Looking back, maybe it wasn't the right decision, but ISU fans wanted something more than what they were getting and demanded a change. That's the way it goes with coaching changes.

McCarney had a better record in his penultimate season than any of the 12 ISU seasons since. His firing was a giant mistake.

You guys traded in Davis and Alford for Lickliter and Fran if we really want to talk about giant mistakes

There it is, the ever prevalent comparison of ISU football and Iowa basketball.

The fact that those 2 programs dont belong in the same sentence should go without saying.

I agree this will be the case soon. With first weekend Fran and CMC the programs are trending in opposite directions

Yep, and in hindsight it was a mistake. I think most Iowa fans can admit that. I wouldn't include Fran on that list though. #1 he hasn't been a failure and #2 he wouldn't have replaced Davis.

Since you disagreed @YeahBuddy I will ask you this, who do you think will have a better coaching career. FWF or CMC?

Fran, unless CMC can lead at least 4 different programs to a bowl game.

Also, he will be back to being a coordinator if he doesnt leave Ames after having the slightest bit of success. Just have him ask CPR how that works.

That surprises me actually. I think Campbell jumps ship for a better job in 4ish years because he's had some success here. If he does that he's almost certain to have a better career than FWF

Must suck not to be a destination program in football or basketball.

I think ISU could be a destination job for the right basketball coach. Don't see it being that way for football unless they get really lucky.

Fran has been a head coach for 21 years and only has 7 NCAA Tournament appearances. CMC has been a head coach for 5 years and had 3 bowl appearances. I'm being serious I'm surprised you said that, I thought most Hawkeye fans thought CMC was a good coach and would just end up jumping ship instead of going the "he's mediocre at best" route

This is the first intelligent and resonable post about Mac that I have seen here. This whole, "he played an easier schedule" crap is dumb as ****. What he did was take the program from horrible to respectable. It isn't easy to consistently beat other respectable programs. That is why I laugh at Clone fans who scoff at Iowa beating Nebraska, Minnesota, Northeestern. These are not dog crap programs and you don't just roll them every year home and away. Same for the Big12, you will always have 3 bottom feeders in a conference, you need to beat all of them. You will have 4 respectable programs you need to beat 2 or 3 of them, and you need to minimum 2 non conference games. That makes you a 7 or 8 win team. This Strawman argument that ISU can't win becasue the Big12 is so tough is crap. Beat the bad teams, a couple average teams and you are respectable, that is what Mac did in 5 out of his last 7 years.

Are you saying Mac didn't play an easier schedule than CMC has to face?
