.

I enjoy the podcast but all podcast (not just CF podcasts) have an obscene amount of filler. They are good for killing time and in depth opinion. Other than that you can get everything everything out of a podcast in an 8-13 paragraph article.

As you all should see from this thread, there is a method to our game plan here with content. Have something for everyone. The podcasts are not meant to replace the written word, but enhance it with extra analysis for those who want it. And all of our pods are themed differently for those who want them.

Also know that 80 percent of the people who log onto CF everyday do not post on the forum.

I'll also add that it is easier to monetize a podcast than the written word these days. We make pennies on the dollar on ads compared to five years ago. We don't charge for membership and our Patreon - while is thankfully up to around 1300 a month - isn't even enough to pay our tech costs per month due to the size of the site.

No easy answers here.

We are trying our best to please as many people as we can, keep up with the times and stay independent.

One more thing, just because I am super passionate about media...

It's a strategic play too. We were one of - if not the first media outlets in Iowa to start podcasting back in 2010. Today, I'd argue with anyone that we have the largest podcast network in the state. Every podcast we put out will get anywhere from 7-15 thousand downloads, obviously depending on the topic. Some of mine from last summer were downloaded over 30 thousands times.

Point is, we have always been playing for the future. I would guess if we'd study the demos, podcast listeners are more likely to be younger. Not all of the time, but in general. More older folks listen to AM radio while the kids stream.

God willing, we will continue to do it all to please everyone.

Yeah, most of my CyFanning is done at work, so I'm not able to listen. When I'm away from my desk I don't want to be plugged in. But I know other folks here love the podcasts...

I think maybe it was the Patreon thread but I was surprised how many people stop and check in every day. Hopefully some more will step up to the plate. Appreciate what you do CW & staff.

I'm confused on what some of you think podcasts are? Do you think they're all just people reading things?

I'm confused with the comment people keep making , " I don't have time" which seems to suggest those of us that listen to podcasts block off a portion of our day, sit in a chair, and do nothing but absorb podcasts.

I listen when I drive.
I listen while do yardwork
I listen when working around the house....e.g...painting, fixing something, etc.
I listen while exercising.

Everyone has the time, it is just a matter of preference on what you want to do with that time.

There are also those who have hearing issues...and listening to talk radio or podcasts can be problematic. It would require my undivided attention to hear and absorb what is being said. So yeah, some people WOULD have to sit in a chair & do nothing but listen. :)

To each his own. However, it seems that many just don't understand the nature of the CF podcasts. Most are "hang out time" with our CF pals and their guests who often have some special access or insight to Cyclone athletics (or other interesting connections, such as the Iowa Events Center).

Surprised to hear how many are still struggling with the podcast player shutting off. There have been at least a dozen work-arounds posted in the last month or so.

Well yeah. They're most definitely not people reading things. That's why I'm confused why people would rather just "read it themselves." I mean, I'm sure there are podcasts like that out there, but that's not what podcasts are.

I will often read a transcript of a speech or interview in lieu of watching a video clip. Podcasts are a little more problematic, as they are more conversational with people often talking over one another. It's a great source...it's just not one that everyone will enjoy. Like Chris said - CF has a mix of something for everyone. :)

I do not listen to them. In my opinion it is too much time wasted to get very few bits of information. Too much rambling on nothing. Some people like them and that is cool. I choose not to listen to them.

I don't normally unless it is a short one, but I think podcasts are a good idea and great for people with long commutes.

I'll listen occasionally but generally I don't for the same reason I don't listen to much sports talk radio. It is 10% info/analysis and 90% a couple of guys just having a conversation and/or being meta about it. That's not my cup of tea. I just get bored. That said, I know a lot of people do like that so to each their own.
