Seemingly never ending Iowa MBB thread (still going.....)

Scary thing is, they have a big man coming in next year from Washington D.C. that isn't Adam Woodbury. Luka Garza. Goes about 6' 11" and 240. I've seen him play a few times, and the kid's legit. Recently bumped to a 4 star on Rivals.

Still, as others have mentioned, I think Iowa fan is in for an awakening next year when Jok isn't there to bail them out with his shooting.

If Naz Long isn't making the corner shot, he's really not doing much of anything else.
Burton is a SR who will probably play overseas next year. That's his ceiling.
Same goes for Thomas..another SR who is a 10-12 points a game guy.
Will be interesting to see ISU's team next year after losing their top 5 current scorers to graduation.

Yeah, it's rough when he only scores 19 points because his "corner shot" isn't falling.

Cook will be one of the better players in the country by the time he's done. He's athletic like McKay but with better offensive skills. Bohannon is pretty unflappable but probably has a ceiling but likely wont make dumb mistakes late in the game like Gesell. He's already a better shooter. Pemsl is only going to get better and it feels like Moss will likely end up being the slasher/scorer. Baer is Baer and they got a couple guys coming in with a lot of length and scoring ability. They'll be a pretty tough out moving forward.

Cook couldn't guard me

You sure he isn't Woodbury? Woodbury was a much better recruit though

Iowa will be pretty dang good for 3-4 years to come. They are essentially going to have the make up of the good UNI teams of recent history (which is not a bad thing).

They will probably take over as the elite team in the state for that time period.

Completely disagree. Also think those good UNI teams would struggle playing legit competition game in and game out

That Iowa will take over as the elite program in the state. As long as Fran is there we will be consistently better than them IMO. Fran would kill to have a player like Wigginton on his roster for next year

Maybe not the elite program, but I have a hard time thinking they don't at least have the better team for the next few years. They have many solid young guys.

They have a lot of role players. I don't think you realize who we have coming in so far next year and we haven't even touched on the grad transfer market yet

Woodbury was quicker, but this kid has more bulk and can shoot. IIRC, teams like UNC saw Woodbury as more of a project with potential. Garza sounds more like a big man who is more polished and can make a difference right away.

So will we. Idk if you have been following Prohm at Iowa State but he is killing it in recruiting. Plus in one year Prohm went farther in the NCAA tourney than Fran did with any of his Iowa teams.

Iowa fans need to realize that they will definitely feel the sting when Jok isn't on the floor next year. That dude hits so many big shots that keeps Iowa in games and he is creating a ton of space for the other 4 guys on the court much like Niang did and damn we miss that guy. Pete can flat out fill it up and honestly, he bails Iowa out of a lot of bad offensive possessions.

I am thinking they will be on the bubble next year and have a good change to really make some noise in the conference starting in 2 years. 2018-2019 could look something like this:

PG: JorBo (Jr)
SG: Wieskamp (Fr)
SF: Moss (Jr)
PF: Cook (Jr)
C: Pemsl (Jr)

Bench:
Baer (Sr)
Garza (So)
Connor (So)
Kriener (Jr)
Nunge (So)
Wagner (Sr)
Ellingson (Sr)
Williams (Sr)
Dailey (Jr)

That is assuming that someone doesnt get Franned (Dailey or Williams most likely) and we get someone else in the 2018 class along with Wieskamp.
