Burton

He really does remind me of Nader. A very talented player that struggles with consistency. Hopefully he can do what Nader did in the 2nd half of last year, which was become a consistently good player.

Nader actually had to play basketball at NIU. Burton has no idea how to play to basketball. He's like this 1st generation basketball bot that was created to ball but has no feel for it.

That being said...I think Burton is better than Nader. He is just like a freshman out there though.

Wrong

To me, it looks like if Deonte's not scoring, then the rest can just go to hell. He has no idea how to defend, and he's not really adept at dribble penetration. In the open court, forget it. He can make anyone look silly. But as a basketball player, he's got some real limitations.

And.........NBA? You can't be serious.

Nobody thought dule was going to be in the NBA, let alone drafted. Weirder stuff has happened. I don't think he will, but his raw skills are off the charts, so it isn't impossible to see.

Deonte just needs to slow down a little bit and let things come to him. Sometimes you can see that he gets a move in his head and it's like "dribble right, spin left, pull up" or dribble left to baseline, pivot right, pivot back left, finger flip from 10'"

Deonte has an idea of what he wants to do and play in Prohm's system. He's even on record saying he know what he needs to do to improve. I worry that he is trying to do that as opposed to just reacting and using his athleticism.
His best games often are one where he has some success early, get's into a flow, and reacts. It does appear during his down games he is thinking about were exactly to be or making the perfect pass that was called which makes his game appear mechanical.
I'd like to see him playing off the ball early, maybe some pick and rolls with Monte where it is either a quick layup at the rim or jumper decision rather than initiate the entire O.

I really hate the phrase "let the game come to him" but I think it really applies in this case. When Deonte is hitting shots all other facets of his game improve and he is more relaxed out there. When the first couple don't fall he tenses up and starts doing stupid stuff like committing the foul going for a low percentage steal 90' from the opponent's basket or shaking his head and jogging back down the court while his man burns Iowa State's defense.

If there was a way to just get him to try harder by concentrating more on the fundamentals when things aren't going well rather than trying harder by making risky plays in those situations he could do so much more for the team.
