Late hit outta Bounds

While we're talking about bad calls, what was Tucker's unsportsmanlike for? It looked like he just got up celebrating, didn't look like taunting.

Tucker's call was as easy as the calls on the guys earlier in the game for clapping in the opponent's face. He gave the two handed get up motion in Russell's face as he stood up from making the tackle. Unnecessary and he got to spend some time thinking about it on the sidelines.

Lazard's and Cotton-Moya's late hits were garbage. That said, there was also one missed on one of the final drives in front of the Baylor bench and an obvious facemask on the long Baylor run that they reviewed on the last drive of the first half.

In the end, ISU's inability to score in the 4th quarter is part of the needed culture change. That far precedes Campbell and staff. Baylor, despite how bad they look defensively, is really good at making adjustments on defense. They still have not given up a 4th quarter point through 5 games, many of which included significant playing time by backups. Those two items are a great representation of the difference between teams that are accustomed to winning and teams that are not.

1) Re the OP: Late hit on ISU - horrible call. QB was IN BOUNDS when contact occurred, after a juke to the inside! You simply can't flag that. No idea why the announcers were acting like it was an easy call.

Other notable calls:
2) Unsportsmanlike conduct on Tucker - he taunted, good call. OTOH, I've seen worse not get called, and if this gets a pass Tucker is on the field more and we might get an extra stop.

3) Unsportsmanlike conduct on BU's OL - he taunted a little, good make up call. If you don't call Tucker's, you have to let this go.

4) Overturned Fumble at half time - bad call. I know many disagree, but if you watch closely you'll see that the QB only had his fingertips on the ball prior to it crossing the goal line. In other words, the ball was already loose and the call should not have been reversed. This one would have been the difference, but it wasn't a blatantly bad call.

5) Lazard's personal foul - IMO a bad call, but close enough not to complain. At least he didn't get tossed.

6) Missed facemask on Linwood - How did they miss that??? Horrible missed call, but in the end didn't hurt BU because they scored anyway.

7) Phantom hold on Bobek - horrible call. He reaches out to touch the DL with the play already downfield? Are you kidding me? Can't remember if this hurt ISU. Was that a series when we scored anyway?

Did I leave any out?

Disclaimer - of course ISU could have won anyway, and every team gets bad calls.

I never saw a replay that showed conclusively he was out of bounds. It looked to me like he was still in bounds and he just left his feet when he was hit. IMO, a total BS call. I'm biased but I do try to be objective and that one pissed me off.

Then one of the announcers said something to the effect of,"That replay shows he was clearly out of bounds, good call." I wonder sometimes WTF those guys are looking at.

Another time the color guy went on looking for a hold on a play when it wasn't even a holding penalty, it was illegal downfield.

Tucker's call was an easy one. You can't taunt a guy in his face, period. Automatic, refs have no leeway on it.

Clean hit, bad call indeed. I doubt anyone on here would argue it was dirty/flag worthy.

I am also interested in Tucker's flag. He is high energy, but far from dirty or a hot head (insert dreadlocks joke here.)

I mean, he technically taunted but that's not getting called in the SEC.

I don't think it helped that he drilled him out of bounds. If he just shoves him he's less likely to get the call.

That's just the way it is. I'd probably have wanted a flag if Lanning got popped like that on the edge.

8) Opening kickoff not going out of the end zone and not touched by offense and refs blow the whistle to stop the play.

9) Offsides that Bobek tried to get. (I'm still not sold that the guy didn't make it back, but usually when the guy jumps that far over is going to get a call against.)

Was that the hit that made Walters flip out a bit on the radio? Not seeing it, it was hard to tell if there was a legit gripe or just Walters' exuberance. I enjoy listen to that guy.

Brando was calling every flag a "good call" even before the benefit of a replay. Made me wish I had access to a radio.

Something I had never seen before was when Russell grabbed the ref running to prevent the snap while we made subs after Baylor had near the end of the first half. I thought making contact with an official would have to be unsportsmanlike conduct, but nothing came of it. Anyone have any insight?
The sad thing is, he could have raped the ref and still gotten away with it...'cuz that's the Baylor way.

Tucker taunted. And the ref was nearby, so I'm guessing he said something un-Christian. Perhaps about Russel's mother.

I didn't think the flag on KCM was justified. Even if the dude was out, he still couldn't have altered his path.

Both calls are an indication of how the game is changing. I understand it, but don't fully support it.

anyone have a gif or photo of it?

isn't the rule that it doesn't matter if the player goes down or is out of bounds if the defender started his tackle when the play was live?

Tucker stood over Russell and waved his hands in a "get at me" way. I guess he may have said something too. Seemed pretty weak to me given what transpires in most college games I've seen.

Ya, Baylor kind of got away with a lot of this during the game, but this is also one of those culture changes that Campbell is trying to instill in the team. Just plain don't do that crap, then it will never be called. Make the play, get back to the LOS and make it again. Russell is going to be a lot more intimidated by getting sacked than someone taunting him. I think Campbell sat Tucker for a while to make that point clear.

Yeah I don't disagree but we have gotten a lot of bs calls like that. We got one in the Iowa game I think for getting up.

I remember thinking to myself "Self, they'd rule that a catch if he was a receiver and he caught the ball at the same exact moment that our guy hit him." So myself replied back that the late hit was a bad bad call.

I think the Bobek hold was just them announcing a wrong number, I rewound my DVR and one of the other linemen was holding, so I think ISU was holding on the play. I didn't pay enough attention to know who was actually holding though.

Pretty bad call I thought. Just the way football has evolved to.

I feel like hit-out-of-bounds call has become absurd. In a fast pace game, with guys running full speed, they are supposed to apparently stop all momentum when someone's foot goes from a foot from being out of bounds to actually being out of bounds. Russell absolutely could have planted that foot and cut back on that play. I know it's hard to legislate intent, but I think the rule should allow leeway for bang/bang plays like this.
