That's the easiest way to do it; preserving rivalries.

"Houston the commuter school" could very well become a juggernaut as a power 5.

If UT and OU are influentiaI power brokers in the Big12, they are not going to allow their early season rivalry game determine if they play in the Big12 Championship game. Also, they would not allow a system which guarantees that only 1 can make the championship game.

There could be a system as proposed by Pollard, which doesn't have set divisions. Instead divisions will be reshuffled every couple years based on historical records.

Another option is set up a schedule in a 12 team conference where a team plays the other 5 teams in their division, 1 protected rivaly game with a team in the other division and 3 games against other teams in that division.

You are correct, but the timetable the big12 has set is that they would like 12 teams by the time we start the conference title game.

I don't think the BIG12 will rush the decsion because they can hold a 2017 championship game based on a 10 team conference. The latest I have seen is a decision by early October and that might be early.

NO WAY does the Big12 add any teams unless their is a guarantee from ESPN and FOX that they will pay additional rights fees for the added teams. We all know if lawyers get involved, this process could easily slow down.

When is it the 17 presentations were to be made and a decision released? To me if the Big12 has been approved to have a Championship Game then no hurry to add teams - UH and UC and others will be there in another year or two. If there are cracks starting to form in the PAC12 give them more time to develop and see what happens.

Posted it earlier, but if they don't announce an expansion about the time the FB season starts... then it will be a PR disaster for the Big12 and it really WILL be the last nail in the coffin.

I'd love to get the AZ schools, maybe even CSU/CU, or even the LA schools - who wouldn't? But to go from where they are now publicly, with the 18 team list, and go 180 degrees to "pass for now"??? "Laughingstock" would have a new picture next to it in the dictionary, and it would be the Big12 conference logo.

Let's all hope the 17 team list is a diversion, and AZ and ASU are in play. But I doubt it. I think we are headed to UH and UC at warp speed. That 17-team list is meant to create a narrative of "well, Cincin and Houston look pretty good compared to the rest of those schools". Thus creating some positive PR around adding them.

If that is the case, that really shows how weak the Big 12 is as a conference. So Oklahoma and Texas will not agree to a scenario where they don't get a rematch? It is a great rivalry but Ohio St and Michigan and Alabama and LSU and USC and Ucla and Clemson and FSU don't get a rematch. I would be more than a tad nervous with that power disparity in the Big 12 as it relates to the future of the conference.

Best plan is have Texas and OU in same division. While this guarantees both won't be in conference championship game it gives best chance both could end up in playoffs In current format. Other division should be considerably weaker to increase odds of clear path through conference championship game most years. See B1G and SEC model. Keep the babies that own the XII in Norman and Austin content.

I disagree. I think they WILL want to be in the same division. The main draw is that the CCG will be against some nobody (in their minds) from the crap division, thus assisting your top dogs to get to the CFP. There is a reason that Michigan and OSU are both in the B1G East.

Plus, if you lose the RRR early on, you still have a chance to get on a roll and get to the top of the division. The SEC isn't much different - they play that week 1 conf game, and it never hurts them any as that loss is forgotten by the polls/media come November.

Texas and OU will be in the same division. Need that rivalry game every year for the networks.

Look for 12 teams. GOR extended to 2030. B12 knows they must do this to survive.

No idea if that merger would include every school. I don't trust the PAC since they pivoted from a TV alliance convo to straight up poaching.

I like a Big 12 grab of PAC schools. A merger or PAC grab of our league doesn't get me happy

Agree. The thought that a good PowerPoint presentation could get Air Force into the Big 12 is so dumb. I loved the ESPN blogger thinking he was breaking real news.

Yep. But for some reason some posters on here think schools will actually bail on the B12 at some point to join the PAC. The current B12 is a better option for any member than the PAC, whether we expand now or not. The only reason the PAC is stable today is a remote location relative to the B1G and SEC.

Why would it be an embarrassment to go on through the season? The reports of this timeline were not confirmed by the conference. That's been the problem with this while process. Someone puts out a report on what they heard and suddenly it's taken as fact.

Maybe I missed an official statement, but I thought that all came from bloggers or reporters. Now of course many of these might as well be official arms of the athletic department (looking at you Chip), I think Bowlsby could always fall back on that not ever being official.

Believe they officially stated by October meeting but maybe sooner. We posters have taken liberties and said decision would be by start of fb season as schools need extraction time from current league. The longer it takes the more cigar smoke you will see pouring out of administration HQ's across conference. B12 powers will be strong arming the weak sisters to get in line. I don't think Houston is on table - Texas is using it as a powerplay with OU. Nobody outside Texas ( and even BU) want Houston in. Since the great and all powerful OZ ( Urban Meyer) supports Cincy - they are in. It is possible to take 1 or 3 and work with that for awhile. Cincy/BYU/CSU - still have 3 openings for PAC in 2022. Really looking at AZ/ASU and CU. NM is fall back if CU continues to be Purdue of PAC 12.
