Malou staying in NBA Draft

@TravisHines21: ISU coach Steve Prohm tells Tribune he believes Malou would have been eligible at ISU but he decided going pro now was best for him.

no. this is a "don't **** around with players who have shown they don't know what they're doing and waste everyone's time" post. i don't care if we get transfers or guys who have questionable relationships at previous schools. whatever. what is stupid is going after guys who have any question on eligibility. just get guys you know will come to the school and be done with it.

Sometimes risk worth the reward though. Malou fits that bill had he panned out.

I wouldn't read to much into this. It was an uncertain outcome, and Prohm was probably taking the optimistic view, while Malou took the pessimistic view, and decided to protect himself from yet another potential disappointment.

you can read it however you want. there's a difference between going after a guy like White who has problems but whose eligibility was never questioned. That's a solid choice. Then there's wasting time and scholarships on guys whose eligibility are unknown. Those are completely separate things. You understand the difference?

Well e wry one said Lard had no chance including CW and now he looks highly probable. Had he been highly probable all along he would likely be a 4* that would have been hard to snag out of louisiana. Staff rolled the dice on 2 talented kids hoping one would pan out knowing the possiblity neither would but really when you have 6 openings you can roll 2 dice and still be ok and guess what looks like one will pan out. You can't have your cake and eat it too, we take some flyers every now and then it is how ISU competes. Sure it would be nice to never have to take risks and sign 13 pretty sure bets like Kentucky but that just isn't our reality.

Even though Malou has an agent now, the NCAA would probably allow him to go to Kansas. :twitcy:

As for the impact of Malou on recruiting, Freddie's antics did way more harm.

Sounds like the NBA likes him too. I don't blame him if he thinks he can get a shot and develope given his uncertainty why gamble with losing another year with no opportunity to develop or be able to live. An NBA d league salary will be a lot more than he has had the last 4 years and unless it was a 90% chance he was eligable (which I don't think is the case) I think this is the right move for him. Sucks for us possibly but also let's us go for the sure thing too.

You're acting like we stopped recruiting forwards after we signed Malou and got caught with all our eggs in that basket.

When in fact we signed Holden, Lard and Bowie after Malou..... And tried on several others.

It looks like the only downside was that it hurt your feelings (and Paul Clark's).

Moot point. NCAA wouldn't have ruled before May 25th deadline.

If it was 50/50 on being ruled eligible and you had to gamble which path do you take? I'm going to the draft and at least getting a paycheck if I can't guarantee my school will be paid for (and I don't have funds to pay my own way). Going pro was the safest bet.

Does Prohm deserve any credit for Malou getting to the NBA? Somebody was working with him to get him settled at DMACC and be able to move forward with life. And wasn't he working out some at Sukup?

The Malou situation was better than the Diallo situation. At least Malou chose us before he decided on the NBA.
