Dave Barrent

The info in the original post is interesting (to me at least), but I can't believe we're still talking about someone else's verbal commitment. Oh, wait, I forgot that "verbals" mean little anymore (if they ever did, in the pre-internet days) and I imagine we'd still take him if he were to loose interest in "the dark side"...

I guess I'd trust analysts over you - no offense.

Maybe the big guy was just having a bad hair day. Or a bad stance day. Hope the guy does not turn out to be a Marshmallow Man as the qb needs all the support he can get to go Motor City Bowling.

What I wonder from the orginal comments is how good are the Jr. DT and the Soph. DE are they guys that could be good future players that ISU needs to be looking at.
jr dt is ineligible already because of grades the soph de has been told by our staff that to be a d-1 player he needs to keep his grades up and get in the weight room

nope it was on two or three consecutive days and at least 4 consevutive practices so i'm guessing it wasn't a fluke

Most of the Des moines schools do have that problem, don't they.

Now there's a lot of talent going to waste. Des Moines and Waterloo should be getting a lot more athletes on scholarship.

Hey Big M, any other decent players or teams that you might have seen at the camp? thanks!

Do you really think this guy knows anything?

I will trust the combined opinions of Gary Swenson who starts Dave Barrent at Valley, Iowa media who voted him all-state, football camp directors who named him MVP, and Kirk Ferentz, Ron Zook, Gene Chizik, Mark Dantonio, Tim Brewster, Bo Pelini, and Pat Fitzgerald, all of whom decided he is worthy of a scholarship offer well before his HS senior year even starts.

Do you honestly think "Big M" is right and all of those people are wrong???

No offense to Big M, and I am always psyched to hear another opinion (especially when it is a negative one about a Hawk), but I'm gonna have to agree with this.

Did I ever say Big M is the next Tom Lemming?!? Or Barrent was crap?

I wanted to know if anyone else stood out in the camp.

I thank BigM for the info, he was just callin' it as he saw it. There has been plenty of big time lineman recruits in the area that have really fizzled. Iowa's best lineman in recent time have been guys like Gallery, Steinbach, Nelson, and Elgin...all who came in underweight and worked themselves up. These already bigger guys seem to get injured a lot and not pan out. Guys like Larsen, Doering (we'll see if he can stay that way), Richardson, and Chris Felder for example.
