Jok exited the Draft

Re: Jok Entering Draft

I suspect that Jok will be back, but if by chance he isn't.... holy cow. The Hawks were already going to be down, but without Jok, they're looking at a sub-.500 season.

The conference they play in is really bad at the bottom - so I think .500 or above is realistic

Re: Jok Entering Draft

Rob Howe thinks Jok and Uthoff will both get invited to the combine and Woodbury has a chance to get invited. Seriously.

For it to be Jok’s last contest in a Hawkeye uniform, he’ll need a strong showing at the combine, where he’ll compete against some of the players he’d be jockeying with for draft position. Uthoff likely will be at the event as might Woodbury.

I know nothing of the combine other than that you have to be invited and there are around 60 spots. Do they invite everyone that is projected to be drafted to the combine? Like is Ben Simmons going to the combine or is it just assumed he's a lottery pick and so he, and other lottery picks, don't participate, thus opening spots for more guys trying to prove themselves?

Re: Jok Entering Draft

I view this more as a camp -- college kids can "test the waters", but also gives them an opportunity to showcase their skills, get on some NBA radars, and set them up for next year(s).

Pretty much all the top 60 guys do it except maybe the first few. I know Towns and Okafor did not last year. With the increase of players testing the water Jok wouldn't make the cut and neither would Woodbury.

Makes sense why they lost. More time to prepare for the combine.

Re: Jok Entering Draft

Someone who knows more than me maybe can answer:

Will Jok's stock improve much next year playing for a down iowa team?

Even if he doesnt make the NBA, is he better off going pro and taking a paycheck overseas?

How does the NBA determine the invite list?

It's a gamble, for sure. Is Jok a guy who can be the primary scoring threat? He'll need to be. Opponents will focus on him. That will be a new role for him. Also, next year's Iowa team is going to be losing a ton of continuity with 4 starters departing, and unproven players stepping into their places. Very likely there will be growing pains. He could easily see his numbers suffer as a result.

I'm sure Jok is considering all of those things and factoring them in as he makes his decision. My personal thought is that he'll be back, but if he decided to forgo his senior season and try to make some money, I wouldn't be shocked.

My personal thought is that he'll be a graduate transfer and play for a more competitive team that actually stands a chance at making a run.

Re: Jok Entering Draft

There's an article on the vertical today about how NBA teams are going to handle the influx of early entrants, the combine is not the only way players will be able to get feedback from NBA teams as they can also work out once for every NBA team.

Some NBA teams consider themselves to be embroiled in an arms race to collect as much information as possible about every player. Some NBA teams may elect to bring hundreds of players into their facilities, fully knowing many of them will ultimately withdraw from the draft.

NBA executives aren’t just interested in this info for their 15-man rosters. They now have a full slate of future players they will need to make decisions on for their NBA Development League squads as well.

Interesting. I heard on the radio yesterday that Calipari is going to have every player from Kentucky, who is eligible, test the waters. Even the walk-ons.
